    Default GP with obstetrics certificate

Not sure of the best place to post this. Hope this is ok.

Can anyone recommend a Melbourne (pref northern suburbs) GP who has a certificate in obstetrics (RANZCOG or DRANZCOG), that they know would be happy to do a referral to an independent midwife for a homebirth?

I have a couple of recommendations but hoping for someone closer.
I used to see Dr Counsil in Alphington but not sure if she'd give me the referral.

I've already got my MWs in place but a referral makes me eligible for a Medicare rebate on my ante and post natal MW fees.
I've searched the database, just hoping someone might have experience in getting a referral. I don't want to make an appointment just to be told they won't support my home birth and won't give me a referral

Can your midwife point you in the directing of a good GP that she has received referrals from or worked in collaboration with in the past?

In my personal experience (sorry from another state) most gps will send the referral. Even if they do not promote home birth options to their patients they will give the appropriate referral when asked. Good luck. X

I do have a couple my MW recommended but I was just hoping someone had done the same and could recommend someone a touch closer. The ones I have aren't too far but they are in busy areas closer to the city and I suffer driving anxiety so would love to avoid the area if possible. No biggy, just thought id try my luck

A referral from a gp without an obstetrics certificate won't qualify me for te Medicare rebate.

Yep, Dr Festa in Mill Park gave me my midwife referral.

Eta: to clarify some.of the pp questions, I was refused a referral from two other gps (didnt have obstetrics). It can be hard getting a referral.
