Not to take away from the OP's experience

But theres a guy my dad knows quite well (he sold me my first car!) who is in his 60's and well respected in the community who intervened when he saw a domestic situation on the street. He ended up in an induced coma in intensive care for several weeks and now cant leave his house
Months on because of the trauma.

People do have a duty i believe. But i think that duty is to call the authorities. Not to put themselves in danger.

    Dear @VicPark
In keeping with bubhub rules, I won't be able to say exactly what I want to right now... Which is a shame, because I'd love for you to hear it. But hear THIS: In no way did I post this thread for sympathy for myself or any other bystander. You could not be more wrong in your assumptions there. But that's ok, you can't be right about everything
I wrote the thread title because its exactly how I was feeling at the time.
Thanks for your input though and for telling me (and bubhub) how I felt and the reasons behind my sharing this terrible story.
By that notion, do you think anyone on this website who shares a sad news story or even confide/vent about a terrible situation happening to them or someone around them do so just to gain sympathy? Your brain certainly works differently to mine, I'd never have assumed such a thing. Perhaps it's an insight into the way YOU think and function?

    Anyhoo...

Cheers to all who commented. It's good to know that at the end of the day, what I witnessed is not the norm and many of you would have been just as appalled as myself.

All I did was take my toddler to meet Santa :/

GOD forbid someone puts the needs of a kid ahead of the feelings of an adult.

Of course people can vent all they like but when the welfare of a kid is involved be prepared to be called out on apathy. I find it disgusting that so many people are ok with a roomfull of adults doing nothing when a child is being aggressively chest poked.

    Are you ok?
You are behaving really aggressively and just being kinda petty and mean.

    No one is supporting apathy.
No one is saying that what happened is ok.
Most of us are horrified about what that little girl endured and we are sad that @Marigold, our friend, who we love, had to witness that.

We are supporting our friend. Because that's what friends do.

If you want to discuss intervening in arguments/distressing situations and how we as a society respond to it then I'm asking you to please start another thread.

    Sheesh!

Circumstances. No one is disputing the fact that a child being abused warrants action. It just so happened that it wasn't MY place to save the day at that moment. An adult DID intervene. I had my baby girl with me, my responsibility lies with HER. I didn't walk past a child being beaten to a pulp nonchalantly. Adrenalin coursed through my veins and I was shaking with fury. A father was speaking to his precious girl like she was a piece of crap and that did not and does not sit well with me. Which is why I wrote the thread.
Stop making me out to be a heartless b.tch, you don't know me @VicPark, and there are people on bh who actually do know me irl so I'll keep that fact in mind and try to remember that there will always be the high and mighty on the internet.
