Hi folks I’m sorry for the length of our post, once I got started it was rather cathartic and I found it hard to truncate it. I’ve also posted to all three forums so I hope that isn’t the wrong thing to do.

We’re new to the egg donor forums, though after spending the enormous amount of time we have stalking/reading the Greece, Czech Republic & South African DE forums reading all the amazing stories, I almost feel like I know some of you, if not just your stories. It certainly has been a roller coaster of a read….we’ve shed a few tears with your disappointments and felt the elation with the news of your BFP’s and the births of your babies.

After not a terribly long (compared to some), but rather intense IVF journey, my partner and I have been advised by our specialist to seek out a younger donor to increase our chances of successfully bringing a baby or two into our lives.

As we’ve read, many of you have made the decision to go O/S for DE with great success, some of you are either embarking on your journey in the near future for the first time or for the second and I guess some of you are still grappling with the decision like us.

We are about to transfer a frozen donor egg embryo from my sister, it isn’t great quality and Warren doesn’t seem to think that it will grow to day 5 once we thaw it. The quality of this embryo and my sisters low AMH (1.6-less than mine) is the main reason it was recommended that we don’t pursue another cycle with my sister. This was a savage blow as she was always our back up plan, so needless to say, ‘things have turned to custard!’

During this FET cycle we’ve both been taking Warren’s ‘magic cocktail’ of supplements and we need to decide by CD20 whether or not to start down reg for a fresh cycle should this FET not have a positive outcome. Although it has been strongly advised that we don’t bother and save our money for a ‘holiday’, we are certainly torn between giving it ‘one more shot’ with our new FS Warren or heeding the advice. If we do go ahead with one more fresh cycle using OE it will certainly be our last and it may possibly be the end of the road for us.

My heart gets heavy and the tears come easily at the thought of giving up…so I know it can’t be the end of our journey. But I also don’t want to ruin us financially or mentally as we also need to finish renovating our house so we have somewhere to live and my partner works away and he’d like to be able to someday come home to be a Dad should we be lucky enough to have children (until we’ve finished IVF and renovated he can’t or none of this will be possible).

So I guess I’d like to ask some questions….
    1. What was your pivotal moment when you gave up on your OE and decided to use DE?
    2. Did any of you try for DE in Australia? And how did you go about it?
    3. How did you make your choice on which country to go for DE? And which clinic?
    4. Have you used more than one O/S clinic in more than one country?
    5. If you are patient of Warren’s is there a clinic he prefers to deal with?
    6. Will/does Warren test for all immune issues automatically and then use the immune protocol?
    Thanks for listening/reading

    Hi Gen72, welcome
I'll try to answer the questions that in can that apply to me
firstly I already have children conceived "the natural way" , it was easy for me to switch over to d/e as my eggs were old and I knew if I wanted another child d/e was the way to go no real pivotal moment just cold hard facts, young donor verses my old eggs and countless miscarriages, monthly stresses of doing opk's temping and bding during "the window" I haven't had to do ivf so can't compare with all those stresses.
Didn't bother with d/e in Australia, not worth the hassle imo.
I had been on various conception forums including d/eh ones for around a year before I made the decision to go for it, so got to know of a few different clinics.
I went to a Greek clinic in Athens for my first try, it didn't work so I chose to go to another clinic in the Czech Republic that was having a lot of success, and after initial contact with them realised that this was the clinic for me, everything was super easy compared to the other clinic, set egg collection and transfer days which makes it easy to book airfares in advance and get good prices, I liked the guarantee of 2 top quality 5 day embryos as well. They also have a hotel on site which saved a lot of hassle, plus the price was really good and included icsi and blastocyst stage at no extra cost, freezing any left was also included in the cost for a year as is freezing partners sperm incase it doesn't work etc. Many clinics charge extra for all of the above They will also send your medication over or can arrange a script to be sent to fertility2u etc.
I never had a fertility specialist, I have a wonderful gp who arranged everything that I needed, blood tests, scripts that I needed etc and his nurse did my depot injection as well
good luck with your decision and I'm sure the other girls will chime in and give you their thoughts

    Hi everyone

Hfam great news. Must be so great to start telling people.

stacey hope the girls are feeling better.

Gen72 welcome. I am happy to answer your questions. We have never tried IVF with oe. We met late so I was already too old. We tried naturally with no success so went to a FS who said don't waste time and money using own eggs Gi straight to donor egg. We tried looking here first. Put an add on a couple of sites, in the paper, we even shared it on Facebook. Got a lot of hits on my ads but no genuine responses. We were offered a baby from an orphanage in Africa, we didn't even have to go over there, we just had to pay some money then meet the baby at the airport, ummm. Scam.... We went to a meet up for donors and recipients and I was not comfortable with the whole process so we decided overseas was our option. We were considering the same countries as you are, and decided on Czech because we both wanted to travel there. We have only had one attempt and unfortunately that resulted in miscarriage early this year. I see a FS and Dr M in Sydney for immunology issues. I was not seeing Dr M last time so hopefully with his help this time we will have success. We were lucky last year and got 2 frozen embryos so heading back in about 4 weeks.

im in the waiting stage. Got the big needle next Friday. So hopefully I don't get grumpy and moody after that. For me that is the start of things, treatment finally starting. I have 4 weeks of work left then a few days after that we fly out. Intralipids in the morning and fly out that night.

    have. Good weekend everyone.

    Deb

    Hi everyone

Stacey how are the girls. Hope they feel better already.
Deb, woohoo for starting the treatment next week. So exciting.

Welcome Gen72. I'll try to answer some of your questions.

    1. For me the decision to have an egg donation was relatively easy. I wanted a child so badly and in my heart I knew that that child will be mine no matter how it was conceived. The hardest decision was if we should do one more cycle with my own eggs or go for ED. We had 4 IVFs and each time we barely had an embryo to transfer. So the question was: do we risk the money and more importantly the time and our sanity to try one more time. Things could have been different because after the 4th IVF I discovered that I have some immune issues, but I just couldn't accept another failure and to wait another year maybe to try again for ED (due to financial constraints mainly).
    2. No, we haven't tried in Australia. The main reason is the lack of anonymity. I just want to be this child's mum 100% and I couldn't bare the thought that someone else might get involved in our lives and influence this child as they wish. But that's me. Maybe I'm wrong. I also read that is extremely difficult and you need to find your own donor etc.
    3. The choice of the country was easy. Our options were South Africa and Czech Republic. We chose Czech because of our European origins. We felt more connected with them. Plus, I think the costs are little bit lower than in South Africa. The downside for some might be that you don’t get so involved in the choice of a donor. In Czech Republic you can't see photos of the donor as a child and no extensive description. For us it was a plus, because I just don't want to get too emotional and connected with the donor. So, I completely trusted that the clinic will choose well for us.
We chose Zlib based on this forum experiences and our feeling about the clinic. I had a good feeling about them from the start: everything was really clear (procedure, prices), good communication, good success rate etc. And I was right. They are really professional. We really enjoy Zlin, the clinic, and the clinic hotel.
    4. No, we tried only once and we were so lucky to be successful.
    5-6. Sorry, can't help here.

Sorry for the long post. Hope it helps.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

@stacey10 You mentioned set days for transfer etc I know it's a long shot but I was wondering if you knew whether those days are still the same at all? I have emailed the Zlin clinic seems lots of positives about them across various forums. Also, does anyone know if they have a limit on BMI at all?

@tegs26 yes the transfer and collection days are still the same, collection on a Thursday and transfer on a Tuesday, not sure about the bmi, I don't think so as I have 2 friends that went from the uk and they are definitely on the bigger side and they had no problems, most of the Europeans clinics don't have a bmi restriction within reason as long as you are in good health

I think Czech might be the best option I have been looking at donor agency sites and it seems all to difficult and at least with set days I could book when things are on sale etc ... we won't have much time due to my dh job.

The research is good but it just keeps throwing up more questions lol

@tegs26, it's very easy, you decide when you want to go and they do the whole cycle around that

so I have sent off the initial email on Sunday and got a response overnight wow!!

Anna responded so not sure if anyone has had her as the coordinator before?

The dates etc seem easy and set days as you said @stacey10 so looking positive.

Have my lap/hys next week so will start filling out all that infor then.
