DP wont be home for xmas. i have known for a month or so but the closer it gets the harder it is to comprehend. The only reason was because her brother and sister's kids will be there(back home overseas), she is not very close to her sister, her brother passed away a few years ago and just feels like shes missing out. Her mom doesn't approve of our relationship and doesn't wanna know about it or see anything.

Its starting to **** me off because, her brother's kids now wont be going(their moms make the final decision) and as usual closer to travel dates her sister has gone silent as usual which is a sign that she wont make the effort to turn up. The whole reason she was gong wont be there so we missing xmas with her for nothing.

Sounds like she should cancel and spend Christmas with people who actually care about her. I hope she does for your sake.

@littleTed is it at all possible for them to come to your house for Christmas? Sounds like it might not due to their health but at least you'd know your kids where in a suitable environment. I gather it's too far away for just a day trip. Can't really offer much advice but I hope you feel better just letting it out. Make sure you do whats best for you and your family, sometimes it's not easy though. Massive hugs to you

It's so hard when they grow up isn't it? Enjoy your time with him on Boxing Day, I know it's not the same but it's something to look forward to.

@Little Ted, could you tell your parents that you'll be alternating Christmases between them and your DH's family? Then you could grit your teeth and get through this year knowing that it would be two years before you had to go again! It must be so hard to deal with.
