I'm only asking as my GP tried me on several different ones when I was around 15. Unfortunately, they didn't work for me - I actually ended up getting my period around 4 times over 6 weeks (1 week on, 3 days off, 1 week on, 2 days off, etc).

But other friends (SIL included) were lucky enough to find a brand that suited them. Being many moons ago now, I figure there's more out there, with better hormone levels.
I don't really believe any contraception improves cycles/fertility so I won't be on any.

MummaK - I think it's interesting about the gluten free. PCOS varies so differently between people that it may very well help some. I'd be interested to know whether it is the gluten part that is helping or the lower-gi diet due to not as many high carb breads, etc. I wonder if they've done any research into it - have you come across anything?

On a low-gi diet (which is also largely gluten free due to no breads, etc.) I do find that my skin is better but not what I'd expect of a chick my age.
Tbh I'm not sure. All I know is that when I cut gluten out I lost 20kg (over 18 months) without excercising. I went from having 30+ follicles on each ovary and messed up hormone levels to now not even having pcos

I've found over the years that the severity of my PCOS has fluctuated. Would be interesting to see what my levels are now. I'm gf/low-gi and it's not easy to lose weight still. The condition seems to vary so much between women. Some are able to breast feed and others can't. It really needs more research.

Found this in an article from 2003 by Marx & Mehta (so not that recent but likely still relevant):

    When fertility is desired:
When fertility is desired, oral contraceptives and antiandrogens cannot be used. Sometimes, weight loss causes menses to become regular, although ovulation does not always occur. Patients may require fertility drugs such as clomiphene citrate or exogenous gonadotropins. Nowadays, insulin sensitizers, especially metformin, are playing an increas- ing role in establishing fertility.
