    Good luck @MrsTugs!!

Well...mostly for LT and AWC...looks like we will be meeting this bub sooner than expected. Csect moved to April Fools day. Ill be 38+5.

I had a shocker of an appointment with a really rude OB and long story short, my VBAC may be off the cards.....but we'll see what the next few weeks hold.

Well....firstly she checked my weight, and BMI.

For the first time ever, i am told that my BMI is at the cutoff for the hospital, and if i gain ANYmore, ill have to birth in Melbourne as they wont get an Epi in. ive only gained 600gms in 4 weeks by their scales.

Because of my BMI, Bubbas size (97th %) and extra fluid around him, they think i have GD. They were going to get me to repeat the 2hr test...

I also got told its not only the pregnancy and birth they are worried about but my "ability to care for a newborn" with my current weight, and if nothing changed i wouldnt see my children turn 21.

Apparently i only have a 5% chance of a VBAC with my current situation.

THANKFULLY, they went for a 2nd oppinion with another OB who was much nicer. They took a look at my back and said there wouldnt be a problem administering the Epi so their BMI policy wasnt relevant....That the other ob "Can repeat the GD test if they want too but it will come back normal. Some people just grow big babies"

**Won't bmi be "off" in pregnancy because you are carrying a baby, placenta, amnotic fluid, higher blood volume etc? I didn't think you had gained much?

Because of my BMI, Bubbas size (97th %) and extra fluid around him, they think i have GD. They were going to get me to repeat the 2hr test...

**Pfft you have already passed that test!

I also got told its not only the pregnancy and birth they are worried about but my "ability to care for a newborn" with my current weight, and if nothing changed i wouldnt see my children turn 21.

**Do they not realise you have done it all before? and what evidence do they have of that last statement? That seems way out of line!!

Apparently i only have a 5% chance of a VBAC with my current situation.

**will you have an epi if you go into spontaneous labour? I know what its like to grow a big baby! Haha

Yep, that was my thoughts. BMI would be off because its for a normal person...Not an 8 mnth pregnant one! I have gained alot in the last few months... total of about 18kgs BUT According to them, i have a 3.5kg baby on board already, PLUS excess amniotic fluid......plus all the normal extra blood, placenta etc...so of course id have put on weight!! Stupid woman!

She should have realised ive done it all before, she knew i had a csect and we had Mr K with us! I think this was the most offensive part of the whole appointment. Who in their right mind tells someone whos heavily pregnant they wont live to see their children turn 21!

I was hoping to NOT have an epi, as i think that contributed to my slow progress with DS. I was hoping to be as active as possible, but i did have a MW say they would like to give me an Epi sooner than later being a VBAC, because the anethetists dont like being rushed to put one into a VBAC patient who needs an emergency Csect...

    Grr stupid lady.

I would recommend holding off on the epi as long as you can as it can stall labour (though for some women it does the opposite). It is counterproductive recommending VBAC patients have an epi sooner rather than later as an epi increases your risk of needing a cs.

Glad you got someone that talked sense in the end and not just looked at the figures. I don't blame you for feeling upset about that first visit. I think I had GD but they never gave me the 2 hour test.

The advice AWC gave re epi is good. I had to have them because I'm a bleeder, but didn't get them put in until 10cm first time and 8 cm second time. The second time even at 8cm it slowed it down heaps and drew it out an extra 4 hours instead of just 1hour more.
