I'm lucky in that department, my MIL is a lovely person. It's just sometimes that she makes that odd annoying comment implying that her way of raising her children was better. She also likes to talk about us DILs to each other behind our backs about what she disagrees about our parenting.

Example 1 - "little Tom (my nephew) was here and was very good. He didn't play up like he does with his mum" - surely a 2 year old will find much more important getting his mum's attention than that of a grandparent

Example 2- "SIL won't smack her children. Did your parents smack you as a child?"

Example 3 - "SIL won't give her 2yo the bottle. Don't you think it's great to give them the bottle and they will doze off by themselves in the cot?"

Yep same😞 she hasn't called her niece in over 2 years and hasn't even called niece number 2 at all. No cards, no gifts, no congratulations. Mil just took back photos and video of my girls she wouldn't even look at them. She hates happy people she's so weird! Anyway Monnie their loss 😖

So DH told MIL I DIDNT want to attend Xmas.. And not to hassle me as I felt uncomfortable etc. So today she rang me and did exactly that!!

She expects me to spend Xmas eve with step dad (separated will be there) then all day with 40 plus people with H and W. I don't want to do Xmas and feel pressured into it.

What about my parents? And my disabled brother (Down syndrome) who is used to waking up every Xmas to me and Xmas. 😥

I think we will be getting a few more MIL stories now with Christmas celebrations around the corner. I will probably have some of my own

Mine just called to say that she and fil can't afford to get anything for the kids for Xmas as they are both on the pension. That's ok. I don't expect it anyway. We are only here when they want something. In the same conversation started hinting for us to help replace the tv, watch, laptop and tablet belonging to fil. Umm - No! And while we are at it I would love if they'd stop sending cards telling the kids they want to spend more time with them but never actually turn up.

Me, with 5 week old bub in arms: " ugh I'm really tired, dd was awake so much in the night".

Mil: "Yes I know, I've had 5 of my own you know"

Ummm, yes I know how many kids you've got. They were all at my wedding. They were born decades ago. Talk about twisting it to make it about you!

My MIL is a serial offender for this. When she actually does come around (which is rare and the visit lasts 10 mins) she whines how she doesn't see the kids much and she should really come around more..... then it's another 3 months for the next visit

Asked SIL a question about kids tablets - she knows lots about technology, thought she may be able to recommend a brand. This is the reply I got. She's been judging everything lately, including the fact that I serve supermarket party pies at my kids birthday parties.
