No word of a lie here is our exchange tonight-

    "OP, this dishwasher is dirty"
"Yes, MIL, because there are dirty dishes in it"
"Well aren't you meant to clean them first before putting them in?"
"No, that would defeat the purpose of a dishwasher wouldn't it?"
"Well that doesn't sound right to me. how do you keep the dishwasher clean then?"
"When the dishes get cleaned the inside also becomes clean".
"So it sits there dirty the rest of the time? What's the point of having a clean kitchen when you have dirty things inside a dishwasher?"
"MIL, it's a DISHWASHER. Nobody is looking inside."
"No but it will smell and attract cockroaches"
"MIL I don't think you understand. It's not the same scraps sitting there. It's kind of like a bin. It gets emptied out..."
"No OP. This is no good at all. I'd rather just wash up."
    "Well I'm using the dishwasher."

I'm banging my head in frustration and MIL has gone to bed to sulk.
    GAHHHH

(They NEVER used the dishwasher in the four years they lived here)

I'm sorry but that made me laugh so much. MIL's are a special breed aren't they.

Um.. What does she do with her rubbish? Does she like to use an indoor bin? Or does that smell too much and attract too many cockroaches?

Gonna be a loooong 3 months
This sounds like mine. She once said "I will only roast a chicken in my oven in an oven bag, otherwise it makes too much mess. Some people just don't care about their oven at all."

I guess I'm one of those people, my oven is very far down the list of things I care about!

I have many lovely things my MIL has said over the years, but a couple recent ones come to mind. She insisted on coming to stay when I was in the thick of evening sickness, literally throwing up every night around dinner time. One evening I came up from talking down the toilet to lay on the couch, she comes over and asks, ' Are you cooking dinner tonight?' Wtf. Just recently she told me I couldn't have a nice kitchen, because then I would have to cook. I quickly retorted with , 'I do cook'. DH followed with ' She does cook'. Absolute silence followed for once. The other thing I can't stand is her need to share everything about us and what we are doing with people, I am a very private person and cannot stand it. I have only recently got DH to stop sharing so much info with her.

That would work on normal people but MIL would be happy with that as she could stay at ours and snoop while we're not around... She touches things & moves things so you know she's been there!

Another time I just walked in the house after working all day, she'd been at our house doing nothing, so I was multitasking in the kitchen, cooking dinner & opening mail, she stood next to me & read my mail, actually picked it up flipped it over & read it... I was in too much shock to say anything!

She is also very good at asking if she can help with anything right as I've finished whatever it is I'm doing!

She also always tells me how much my DH spoils me... Apparently I never spoil him back, the way she says it is like I don't deserve it or something!

    Anyway vent over!
@LoCo hope it's still going well!
Thank you for thinking of me. I have to say it's not going as bad. I'm desperate for time to myself as you get. I've only had a few annoying comments which I have ignored and tried to not think about.

I know she's not mentally always there but..

"Where's angus? Why did you forget to bring the baby?"

    And

    "How's your mum ally"
