This will sound naive, but I'm meant to be getting my nails done professionally this week (first time in years) and I have no idea what to ask for. How do you decide on a design? Do you let the technician suggest something? Look at a display? If it says on the sign "full set acrylics for $36" does that include colour/French tips? I have no idea what to say when I go in. And what's better, gel or acrylic?

Im probably not the best person to ask lol! When i first started having them done I used to just stick with full set acrylic with white tips then slowly started picking a different colour each time i went back (so infill). After a few visits once I was comfortable with my nail technician I picked a colour and she asked if she could play around with stamps and a feature nail. So now thats all i really do- pick a base colour for the tips and let my technician have free reign on the rest! It depends where you go whether or not they charge extra for designs etc. My nail tech doesnt unless i want 3d decals or stuff like that- like the foil decal i have at the moment wasn't extra, but some will charge. The cheap places in shopping centers usually charge extra for colour tips, extra again for glitter tips and then designs etc are more again. I find acrylic lasts better but its really personal preference.

Also those are my real nails

Your real nails?! They're incredible. Love them.
Thanks, I guess I'll just have to ask when I go in. I want coloured tips and accent nails Just have no clue what colour/design... I'm so indecisive!

Haha thanks, considering I have been a constant nail biter since I was little, I think they have turned out really well- amazing what a great nail tech can do

Colour tips and accent nail is a great start. At your appointment they will have charts/colour samples etc to give you an idea of colours etc. I personally pick colours depending on my mood- like if i am feeling down, i will pick a colour that cheers me up or if I am feeling happy i will pick a colour that shows that (so bright, playful colours). If I have a special occasion coming up, i will pick a colour to match in with what I will be wearing (usually the colour of my accessories).... hope that helps a bit!

Default Show us your nail polish !!!!!

I have never really had nails to paint, but this pregnancy they seem to be growing long and quite strong, so when I spotted these at my local on clearance for $4 each, and the Sally Hansen for $2 I had to buy them.

Dont have any colours on atm as will paint tomorrow but have fallen in love with the essie brand. Got one in my beauty box i recieved the other day and fell in love with it straight away. Had a look at their colour range tonight while out and OMG i am in love. I think i actually prefer the essie range over the gel envy range and i love those too. So many beautiful colours to choose from. I want them all
