    Default Starting IVF Mar/Apr 2014 - aged 43, single #3

@Penny75, good luck for EPU tomorrow lovely! And good luck for next tues @littlesparrow74 - I'm a bit out of the loop but remind me, did you have 2 embryos transferred?

AFM: finally emerging from 2 of the bleakest weeks I think I've ever experienced.. Just grief and disbelief at how this insidious ****e could dare to even brush my beloved little brother. He has a bone marrow biopsy (sounds freaking awful) this Friday, then petscan next Wed, then results that Friday at the hematologist. So we will know what we are really dealing with then and what stage he is. I've deep dived into all the literature and Internet and signed up to a forum of people suffering from this particular cancer and it has helped somewhat.. I was pointed to some recent studies done in the states that say current average survival rates for under 40 year olds for this cancer are over 20 years.. And that they've made massive strides in recent years with treatments which are moving away from chemo and towards miracle immunotherapy drugs.. I am just holding out for a good diagnosis next week and the fact the world is not too far away from cure for this one.

So family are feeling a little better now the initial shock had worn off and just pragmatic about next steps to get him clear of this ****e.

In other news: check this girls - I rang fertility first in Sydney today to ask if they would do iui/donor insemination on me considering I am over 40. You should have heard me relaying my story and history - I was nervous and waiting to be shut down and denied at any moment!! Somewhat scarred by the way women over 40 get treated in fertility clinics in Melbourne I think! I was blown away to be treated so well and to be advised that they have no restriction on treating women over 40 when it comes to iui/donor insemination. They have a decent pool of donor sperm as they hook into a sperm bank in the US.

I have an apt with Dr Clark and a brief counselling apt on nsw legislation in April, which I'll fly up for. Then I'll head back later for treatment. They were so lovely on the phone and made me feel like I actually mattered which is so refreshing.

@Kelly70 So good to hear from you Luv!! Good job on joining the forum and getting stuck into the research. The treatments sound really promising and who knows what clinical trials they may be doing at whatever hospital your brother is being treated at. His specialist will know more about that. Yes, the bone marrow and PET scan are pretty par for the course and I'm everything too that he gets a good diagnosis.... C'mon Universe!!!!

That's fantastic news about Fertility First Luv!! Hoo-bloody-ray for a FC that treats the more mature woman with a bit of dignity and respect instead of someone who's just wasting their time and making their stat's look bad The DS smorgasboard sounds pretty promising too!!

What's the new legislation about do you know?? Either way, sounds like you'll be getting this show on the road pretty soon Luv!! Very excited for you!!

@Penny75 How you going Luv?? Tomorrow's the big day!! that all your follies contain lovely, mature eggs!! I'll be looking out for your update!!

    @littlesparrow74 for you!!

Hello to all the other Lovelies too........xoxxoxo

Late edit.... @Jem70 Good to hear from you too Luv!! Are you still having your "flirt fest" with the man from the past?? lol

Thanks for all the good wishes for tomorrow ladies!!!
@BlondeinBrisvegas and @Vixjc thanks so much for your wisdom regarding the lower grade embies and for your empathy about those awful pregnal bottles! I actually ended up jumping in the car in a panic and driving over to my sister's after a few failed attempts at opening them. She managed to snap them open for me (and cut her hand in the process!) just in time for me to draw them up and inject right on time. What a wonderful sister I have
@Jem70 so lovely to hear from you. I hope it's not all work and no play for you on your trip. Do you have an update to share with us re your rekindled romance?
@Kelly70 fingers and toes crossed for positive news for your brother next week after he goes through all of the tests It's good that you've been able to connect with others and find out more. Information is power and it sounds like it's giving you much needed hope. Awesome news re the IUI in Sydney too April isn't too far off!

@Penny75 and @BlondeinBrisvegas circumstances and distance mean it's time to call a halt on the old love but it was nice to know that 20 years on we both felt the same way.

it was a great distraction from the ivf treadmill. @Kelly70 I might call fertility first as well. I don't want to do another cycle but I would consider a couple of rounds of IUI before I turn 45 and save my two frosties until after that.
    hi to everyone else!

Hi Kelly 70 ... Sorry I have been away from BH for a while .. Just read the shocking news about your brother.. Life is just not fair sometimes... Isint it ...I have seen cancer very closely in my family and I know it can be hard for everyone in the family to cope up with the diagnosis... But medical science has advanced so much these days and the treatments have gone so much better that it can be fought and the prognosis is not bad. I really hope and I am praying hard for your brothers test and its results and its goodthat you have found some info and support from a group. You are such a strong woman and I am sure that you and your family will come out of this very soon with a good prognosis. Big hugs xx

very happy abt the Sydney clinic. Good luck for your iui....

@Penny75 and @Sue77 - thanks so much for your kind words about my brother - you guys actually make me feel better you know. Interesting you have some personal experience @Sue77.. I don't know too many people who have had this happen - it seems to be reasonably rare which makes me cross because why was my beautiful brother picked to be on the receiving end? One more week and we'll no longer be in the dark as to the full picture which is a relief. We almost can't wait for all the horrid tests to be done and dusted as it's the unknown that takes your mind to dark places.

I've stocked up on a few supps that I had finished and am back on the fertility arsenal in anticipation of some donor insemination in the coming months. Has been super frustrating as I continue to have massively fertile signs around ovulation that I never had so much before the ivf treatments - yesterday had tons of bloating and pains and all that fertile clear stuff just pouring out (sorry back on the tmi train). Clearly ivf reboots your system perhaps? I'm hoping it continues for another couple of months.
@Penny75, good luck today lovely. Looking forward to hearing your result and remember it's quality not quantity.

    Big hugs to everyone xxx
