Default Day 3 only 4 cells, anyone had any success?

I've just found out that at Day 3 our 3 embryos are only 4 cells. Our clinic ONLY does Day 5 transfers and they have pretty much told me that unless they do some serious catching up, they won't be doing a transfer. This has of course left us devastated and crying all day. They can't understand what is going on, we are young (in our 30's) sperm looked good and so did eggs, they just won't grow quick enough. I'm wondering if anyone here had some slow starters? They told me they will call me in 2 days and let me know if we are having the transfer or not. I am so sad. This is our first cycle and we can't afford another. I don't know what to do.

They don't do day 3 transfer? Who are you with? I wouldn't be cycling with them again

Thanks for the replies. I'm with Genea in Canberra, they have been so far really great. But when they told me this news this morning, I asked if I could do a Day 3 transfer instead and they said that the clinic does day 5 blastocyst transfers because they have the best chance. Now while this is true I feel that because the chances of them making it are slim we should try! The problem is that i'm stuck out in a rural area, it is already a 3.5 hour trip to Canberra, Sydney is over 7 hours away so I don't have a range of clinics to work with.

Whilst what they say is true I have never known a clinic not to transfer on day 3 if there is a chance the embys won't make it to day 5. I think they are chasing statistics. They want there BFP to be high.

I haven't had a day 3, 4 cell transfer, but I have 2 sons from Day 3 transfers. My clinic also normally do Day 5 transfers, but let me do Day 3 as I only had 1 or 2 embies.
It's better to transfer and have some chance.
    Good luck!

That's what I think also, it is better to try and have A chance than NO chance. I also think they are chasing numbers and their website has all sorts of claims for percentages etc. Maybe I should call them tomorrow to discuss? What do you think? I don't want to sound like an idiot or that i'm pushy as I know that they are the experts, but I am paying them a lot of money.

My DS was a day 3 and we only had that 1 fertslise. They put him back and didn't risk it. I guess there is nothing you can do now as even if they agree it will be day 4 so may as well be day 5 but geez I would be totally ****ed

I fought the urge to call them today, I'll just wait until tomorrow to see what happens. I did read that someone said that theirs was slow so they waited a few extra days, put it in and she has a son. Anyone know if this could be true? I thought that once you got to day 5 that was it??

Whilst we had 2nd round success with 5dt with genea, I can sympathize with you regarding geneas rule of only doing day 5 transfers. Have you rang or emailed you fertility specialist? Maybe they could go in to bat for you against the embryologists? Just an idea. We had 6 blastocysts at day 5. 1 got transferred, 1 frozen, they told us the other 4 weren't good enough to freeze but embryologist wouldn't go into specifics with us when we questioned it. We were pretty upset about that at the time.

Hi. If the embryos haven't arrested they sometimes leave them an extra day. I also know of someone who had a blastocyst and a morula (i.e. was a day behind) transferred and ended up with twins. Anything can happen. I hope it all works out
