    Default Wwyd?

A neighbour has started knocking down part of their house and casually mentions that they don't know if the materials they are knocking down contain asbestos or not, but aren't taking any precautions either?

I would report to local council. I'm pretty sure they can get into a lot of trouble if they haven't checked what material it would be!

I'd find out who to report them to and report them!

That's really stupid and negligent of them.

Okay thanks. I did report them. Straight away. A bit worried about the fall out but far out, it's so fecking dumb of them. They aren't my neighbour, but my kids go to the house next door to this one a lot. So my kids aren't allowed to the house for several weeks now. I told the person who's house we visit that I was going to report them and they asked me not to. But I did anyway because they're potentially endangering everyone in the whole area. It's a windy day and everything. Asbestos particles could be going everywhere. It's just soooooo stupid. We renovated a house with asbestos once and we were so, so, so careful. We got the proper gear and only knocked down when there was no wind so that no particles could fly about. I just can't believe people can be so flippant about it. It's made me really mad.

The person who lives next to them told them they weren't happy and asked them to hose everything down after and bag it up and they said they will. They said they were a bit surprised they weren't happy about it. But they continued on anyway.

They were sending an officer around today. I am glad I did it and told the neighbour that if they ask they can tell them I dobbed them in. My concern for my children's safety comes well above their feelings right now. I don't really care if they get annoyed with me about it. They are possibly endangering the lives of so many around them with no regard.
