Apologies in advance but a very active thread and a very seldom poster means long post forthcoming………..

Patsy73 – hope you’re doing ok, I’m looking forward to meeting up tomorrow and hopefully by then you will have heard that all 4 embies are still going strong.

CAMom – congrats on your BFP! Thank you for your well wishes

Konza – welcome to the thread! Great to have more blokes on here and I’m sure Tittle will welcome the extra testosterone ;-)

Lisaxxx, Chillout71, Faith15, EmmaJane75 – welcome to you too and thanks for your well wishes. I see you have already been reading along and learning from all the ladies on this thread. I too can say that it provided me with the courage to take the plunge and go ahead with a donor cycle and here I am in Cape Town having an absolutely amazing time. Always the pessimist I said to DH that if we don’t have any luck I think I will find it hard to stop trying as I will want to keep coming back to CT for a holiday and will always be tempted to just sneak in another cycle! All the best with your respective journeys.

MGC Bertie – I hope you’re transfer went well and congrats on being PUPO!
January – thanks for the good luck!

Laned & Mardicharli – we had dinner at the pizza place we are meeting at on the 18th, absolutely delicious! Even DH, who after reading the menu said “where’s the margarita and the aussie?”, said that it was awesome and he would definitely eat there again, although he would order a pizza on his own rather than share with me, LOL! I have made a booking for 7 of us at 5.30 on the 18th. I hope you arrived in Dubai safely Laned and Mardicharli, the countdown is now on for you…

Sunflower – what an amazing story. We too are gearing up for a low retrieval rate so I’m hoping we end up with such a happy outcome. CFC said that our donor was showing about 11 follicles so I figure we will probably end up with about half that in eggs. When I expressed my disappointment with that number they were quick to remind me that it is all about quality not quantity (hence my SMS to you Patsy) and I know that is true. I think they stimulate the donors more gently over here, my donor was originally due for retrieval on Friday but they have delayed until Monday (yay only 1 more day of synarel!).

MrsErinR – how are you doing? I’m hoping you get to go home soon and are at least making the most out of the TLC in hospital.

Emski – looking forward to reading about you going from the BFPs to the Graduates very soon!

AFM – as mentioned above our donor has 11 follicles at last count and retrieval is scheduled for Monday. In the meantime we have been enjoying the sights of Cape Town which is absolutely amazing (and cheap!). Off to meet up with Patsy tomorrow morning in Cavendish Square and then to Cape Point for some more sight seeing.

    PS, hope I haven't forgotten anyone x

Hi everyone. I have a question I'm hoping to get some thoughts on. As you might know we went over in Sept and had a chemical result. We won't be able to go back until late February/march which is very frustrating - and it's very possible that will be our last shot. Through reading this thread I've learnt about nk cells. I rang my local FS and spoke one of his knowledgable staff to find out if I'd been tested for that and I hadn't and they explained the testing procedure. It sounded as though they probably wouldn't test for it unless I had a couple more failures (but I can't afford for that to happen) but they are happy to go ahead if I'd like to. I was thinking about this yesterday and reached the conclusion I probably will.. Otherwise if we go back to SA and have another failure next year I will wonder if that could have been a factor. The question I have is have others had the test and when did you do it? It was suggested I do it just prior to transfer because (I think this is right) it can rough up the lining and help with implantation. Implantation isn't something I've had a problem with in the past (touch wood) and I'm really hesitant to do anything different in the lead up to a transfer since they have generally taken (albeit to later fail) in the past. So I'm thinking of doing it soon then I'll have a couple of months in between the test and the next transfer. Plus I think it's just 1 less thing to coordinate in the lead up to going to SA. I am going to book in with my FS in the next week to discuss with him but I'd really love to hear your thoughts / experiences.

Hoping - hi, I think my FS did it on day 21 of my cycle (it was done a while ago now along with endo scratch, hysteroscopy and d&c for a clean out). Truth is, if you wanted to 'just get going' you could ask your FS to treat you with a basic immune protocol without doing the testing, which would entail using predisilone (steroid), clexane (blood thinner to aid implantation), doxycyaline antibiotics (to treat any reproductive infections for you and DH that may or may not be present) either with or without using intralipids both here and in SA (not all FS/Clinics do intralipids but if you tell us where you're located we could make recommendations - some ladies only do the intralipids in SA). Just to cover all bases. You could also begin to use Megafol (high dose folate supplement available at chemist warehouse) and Bi-lingual B12 (also at Chem warehouse) incase you have MTHFR as this will assist with that genetic issue.

You will need to do what you're comfortable with I guess - if you do have immune issues this is the protocol they would likely have you on. If it were me, I'd do it at least a cycle prior to going - my FS said she had seen an increase in positive results within 3 months after having the NK Cell testing. I did fall pregnant within 3 months of having it done.

Thanks so much Emski - I didn't realise it would be beneficial to do it a few cycles ahead so I will definitely get onto my FS ASAP. I'm in Brisbane - I see Warren who a few ladies on this forum see by the look of it. I have taken some of the meds mentioned but not all - I'm usually on clexane, prednisone, feldene and a range of vitamins - fish oil(1000), zinc (40), megafol, berocca and low dose asprin. Thanks again :-)

Oh you're in safe hands with him, just go ahead and book in to get the testing done and do the immune protocol he recommends. He also does the intralipids so you're covered there. It's my theory that you want one cycle to 'sort things out' before heading over to SA - nothing worse than a 1/2 period with spotting etc. to stress you out! Wazza will point you in the right direction though.

Hi hopingforbest - I have NKC and am on clexane and prednisolone. I don't know a lot about it but both my Monash and MIVF FS had me on both if these drugs for my OE cycles so I asked to continue this with the DE cycles too which both CFC and my MIVF specialist, who is helping me free of charge to write scripts etc, were happy to support. I've only heard good things about Wazza so I'm sure you're in safe hands. X

Patsy - good luck with your 4 embies. Don't be disheartened you are in with a good chance. Remember they are YOUNG EGGS. And as someone said high numbers doesn't necessarily mean better & there have been plenty of BFPs from 3 day transfers. Will be thinking of you.

Williteverhappen - good luck for your retrieval tomorrow. 11 follicles sounds promising. So nice for you guys to all meet up in Cape Town.

Hoping - I would definitely get NK cells tested. Always good to rule it out if this was the problem.

Welcome to the newbies. I hope you find all the info you are looking for in this thread. For the lady who asked about Denyse & Joel Bernstein. We used them. Yes they are exxy ($1800) but it just gave us the piece of mind to not have to worry about anything. To be honest I just wanted it all done for me and be told when to do this, when to take that etc and not have to chase anything up. We had a support person here in Sydney before we left and when we got back. But agree if you can get a supportive FS to help you can save money. We went in August and I am currently 14 weeks pregnant. We had our best holiday ever and it was all so relaxing.

MGCBertie - hope your transfer went OK yesterday. Fingers crossed for you.

Konza - welcome - great to see another bloke on here like Tittle. I would have loved my hubby to have gotten on before we went. Not sure if he would have though but at least I could have tried!

    Hi to everyone else.

Hoping I am with Warren too - he didn't bother testing me for immune issues but did automatically put me on the protocol. His theory is that none of the drugs involved in immune protocol 'harm' so it doesn't hurt to rule it out as a factor by putting you on the protocol. He also explained that due to my very long history of endo meant that it was very likely I would test positive for something..
He has me on all the usual suspects (Clexane , prednisone (2 types), feldene, antibiotics (as emski mentioned ) pregnyl, intralipids, megafol plus his cocktails of vitamins )
If your DH is also dealing with MFI - I highly recommend his cocktail for the 'boys' ... We had tried various things in the past but his recipe was the only one that saw any improvement.

You are definitely in safe hands with Warren and if you go to him with ideas he is always very open to suggestions and/or questions. He would literally consider anything if it means 'his girls' get a take home baby

Serves me right for posting at 3am CT time! Apologies MardiCharli I referred to you instead of Hopeforall about dinner on the 18th (I'm much better with real names). I hope you are starting to wind down in the lead up to your departure and will high five you in the air! Hopeforall, see you soon! xx

Thanks Blinky - I am going to ring for an appointment tomorrow. He really is a great FS & person isn't he - I live in fear he will retire lol. I am actually worried about the MFI so that will also be part of the discussion. Thanks everyone - you help me figure out some of the questions to ask. :-)
