As for fares the Emirates return fare Bris to Cape Town was showing at $1300 mid Dec when I was looking. I think that was via Singapore and the direct to Dubai and down was slightly more expensive. Via Singapore is 8 hour bite sized chunks (ex Brisbane).

I prefer flying out of Brisbane rather than doing Internationsl to domestic transfers in Sydney (too much hassle).

I'm lucky as this flight was just $80 and points. Somehow this all fell into place.

    Thanks all really helpful

KMP - not found anything less than $1760 from Sydney in any combination, with any airline and different dates and days - $1300 would be fab!
What have found though is cheaper from Melbourne, Darwin or Brisbane which sounds a bit of a palava but worth it to save $600...

Blinky76 - thanks on sky scanner now!

emski72 - we are tempted by Emirates and having stop over in dubai on the way but prob want to come straight back - all is tricky with very active 4 year old.

Hoping4best - DH and I on better footing now. He says I've changed in last year since miscarriage and suppose have gone through the menopause very suddenly. Hormones (or lack of ) are funny.....

The PHI for donor is obviously a separate cost. This is also subject to whether your donor already has PHI and if it is sufficient to cover fertility. If you choose not to do this you will then be up for all hospital admission costs for EPU.
The donor expenses is also outside of the clinic fees and from my understanding can be quite variable. This would depend on whether you donor is working or not and also what each party considers 'equitable'. The figure quoted was what was suggested to my by a potential donor who worked. It would also depend what they do for a job (ie how much they get paid). I did hear of a story recently where a donor claimed to earn $300/day (6 days per week) for a home based business ....
In this particular instance the counselling was also a separate cost but some clinics do have in-house counselling services available.

We also looked at TWEB which had costs of $20,000 (or thereabouts) for the eggs from the USA which you then use in your own clinic here . You would then need to add your clinic charges on top of that! Hence why that option was ruled out very quickly. Our FS also described the eggs from there as rubbish. Apparently he had used them in the past but the quality had proved to be very poor.
I am really shocked by the reimbursement of donors and given they are generally 35+, it is pretty disappointing... At least with overseas options the cost is known and the transaction is somewhat business-like with the emotion of "courting" the donor removed, and the focus is on the genuine desire to be parents..

Yeah we were too. It certainly made me think about whether donors should be paid a designated fee like in SA- at least then it's upfront, monitored and measurable. When I questioned whether you could get evidence of current income so that at least you knew you were reimbursing actual lost wages rather than paying extra, I was shot down as being ungrateful and not 'worthy' of someone's eggs. It got very nasty.

I also am surprised at how many of these donors don't produce that many eggs (sometimes only 2-4) from women over 35. For me it would seem that by doing that you actually lose some of the benefits of using DE??

    Hi All,
I am thinking of booking in some acupuncture on my next trip.
I think some of you have mentioned Sarah Hewland as being great.

I looked her up and seem she is quite close to the clinic but how did you get there - did you get a cab or Uber? I wouldn't want to be walking for nearly 20 mins after a transfer, so I think I would get an uber.

For those that used her, did you go before and after? or just after?
I have a 12:30 transfer appointment and naturally don't want to be late for transfer. So will have to work out the timing.

    Was she expensive?

I would be grateful for any details or tips.

    Thanks

    Hi all

Once again thanks for all the welcomes to the thread - it really makes me feel so much more supported on this journey.

KMP - I am waiting for your news! Like you I will do only one blast, as we don't want twins ideally.

Faith15 - I have also had such a lovely response from Baby2Mom! I would be very happy if my donor came from them, as my contact there has been just delightful. However I think I found a donor elsewhere...

Amethyst13 - good to hear about your positive experience with Sunshine, as my current choice of donor is with them. I asked several agencies to email me donors based on my photos as well as some other criteria, and Sunshine emailed back just ONE profile in about 10 seconds! What I liked was that they remembered this woman personally and thought of her immediately when they saw my photos. So somehow this gives me an additional level of comfort, rather than choosing from a long list.

All - I do have a question on the timing overall, which is how do we synchronize our cycles? Does the donor synch to mine, or do I synch to hers? Sorry for the ignorance but I have only done IVF so I don't quite understand how we end up matching. Thanks for any clarification!

I still have yet to get my DH on board with the idea of South Africa, and we are on holidays for 2 weeks in a couple of days, so I hope to find an appropriate moment to revisit the idea. I don't think he understands that we really don't have any other choices if we want to see info on the donor. He is not involved in the process much (he tends to outsource these things to me), but then of course he has power of veto. He was totally on board with Czech or Ukraine, but I need to explain to him the very big difference between being able to know more about your donor in SA vs. having only cursory info which makes me nervous.

    Thanks
    Kay

Oh Kay, I really hope you manage to bring him around to the idea of SA.
Don't really know too much about the processes of Donors in Czech or Ukraine but I guess all you can do is arm yourself with as much info "for" SA to discuss with him on your holiday.

I think they sync the donor to your cycle however I could be wrong. The other lades might know for certain.

I wish you lots of luck.

Kay we are with Sunshine and I have found Rikki and Nicola to be fabulous. All questions are answered promptly even at night etc.

As for syncing cycles. We (recipients) go on the pill for a few weeks to sync our cycles to the donor. I believe they also go on to the pill to ensure it all goes to plan. They will allow you to do a natural cycle if the dates match up and you have a reason for not being able to go on the pill.

Will be sending positive vibes as you work out the right time to speak to DH about SA. I was very fortunate that DH was present when our specialist explained it was our only option so he was already onboard. It was me who took sometime to be ready.

#Wave# to all, in particular the February Ladies

Hope all those with recent BFP's and bubba's are doing well?

AFM : have started Synarel, antibiotics and prednisone. Clexane and intralipids start tomorrow morning 😷
I got a lovely email from Sunshine overnight as our donor starts her jabbing 💉 this week.
    It's all happening!

    dear all

could you direct me to correct thread or know of someone personally who would have use for lots of ovulation sticks, plus clear blue ovulation kits (smileys) and CBFM (and 60 sticks). They worked for me with the the last BFP and invested about $500 in more sticks but noticed today that some of the use by dates are for later this year

KMP, congratulations on being PUPO. May the magic continue in Bail :-)

As for agencies, I went with EDSA and Kimenthra has been fantastic. I would have gone with any agency as it was the donor for me that mattered. I started off with a preference of physical characteristics but when I drilled it down the family medical history and ageof donor were probably more important to me at the end of the day.

AFM, i can't believe it's actually started. Started Dex yesterday, AF arrived today so I took my depot injection tonight. The needle was quitebig, but surprisingly didn't feel it all. Tomorrow start prognova and antibiotics. I can't believe I only have 7 working days left.

to all the February ladies, let's aim for 100% strike rate
