Donna I'm thinking of you. What a stressful time.

Mardi hope you are relaxing a little.

Yogagirl I agree with the effort in searching for your best donor. I'm sure someone will stand out for you.

AFM tomorrow I stop the pill and then my cycle begins. I'm not sure what to expect with these drugs. It all feels like a dream right now. Thanks for your well wishes and advice. Just had word a friend (fellow crazy photographer) will take me on a day long shoot from sunrise to sunset. Equally excited about that for certain.

    hello!
i am new to the forum and thread but have been reading on and off for a year.
i am 44 and had DS naturally at 40 (left things a little late and since that birth had 6 AFs in total - were always erratic - now realize how lucky i was with DS...) 3 AFs last year, they started after moving to Australia! Bloods at the time showed good FSH/LH but very low AMH, after the third AF had BFP but MC at 11 wks (Nov 13) RE said in Feb 14 bloods showed had gone through the menopause FSH >100 but x1 AF july 14- have been trying acupuncture, naturapathy, meditation and yoga - on daily cocktails of COq10, chinese herbs etc but they (AFs) don't appear to be coming back. Don't feel like have gone through the menopause .....and found/still find hard to believe that one month can be ok (FSH) and then pregnant and then 4 months later (after MC) told had gone through the menopause (have read that MC can do that though).

We (DH taking a little time) have been thinking of egg donation for 6 months but really actually hoping AF would come back but not now seriously thinking of ED. SA has always been the destination have been looking at - and sort of already decided on CT.

Think typical women thing - looking at cost of flights and when best to go, with a 4 year old etc, but then worrying that i dont think you can book flights too far in advance because revolves around donor. Been looking at the nurture site and was quite surprised by the number of donors who admit to smoking? By not having AFs is it easier for me 'to ready'? not in touch with RE anymore as didn't like him - do i need one to help me prepare to go? is it expensive?

I appreciate all this info is on the thread and feel like am asking for a personal 'how to go to sa for egg donor' guide - but maybe if could direct me to prevoius posts? Don't want to appear sycophantic but as a lurker for the past 6 months on here the atmosphere and support for each other has given me the courage to finally post.

ps sorry for the long post

    Hi crabby. Great intro.

I would suggest emailing Cape Fertility as you will get a full suite of documents that explain in detail costs, registered donor agencies etc.

I did get a donor who does not smoke but it's common. Feel free to join multiple donor agencies in your search. If you know in advance when you want to cycle you can see when the donor is available. The government regulates frequency etc over there.

AbabySA were extremely helpful to me in my search for a donor. There are 7 agencies in total.

There are tests that they need done prior to arriving, and in my case specialist ultrasound and hysteroscopy. The doctors are very thorough and in speaking with my doctors here we ascertained that I would rather do the tests so they can be certain that I am understanding of my obligations in this matter.

I feel so confident and comfortable with this decision. I have heard good things about the clinic and I have a wonderful friend who will be in Cape Town when I am there and who will take me to the clinic. I am fortunate to know other people there also.

It takes 8-10 weeks to plan the cycle. Once you choose the donor it is all planned from there. Exciting times ahead for you.

yes forgot hadn't had a hysterosalpinogram yet - was waiting for the next AF to do it (as they wont if you are in second half of a cycle) and been waiting a while.... Will e mail cape fertility and start ball rolling. Be nice to be here with those that are 'in it', those that may be going same time and those experienced and can answer all those little questions that usually come in the early hours!

    Mardi - well done...!!

January - fingers crossed for a smooth birth...

AFM - transferred 2 x day 3 yesterday... little worried I asked to test my progesterone level the day before the transfer and it was only 16...fs said low but ok as it is only 2 days past ovulation and I hadn't started any progesterone support - she has now put me on 3x pesssaries.

Myheart best wishes that all goes well for you

Question.... when you started injecting did you do on Cape Town time or just take on Aussie time once you got there. Yes I worry about such things. Hard because I'm going via Bali.

    Thanks in advance....

My heart - thinking of you as you enter you tww... Sending good vibes and plenty of baby dust that your embies snuggle in well x

KMP - when I started injections I did it at 5pm each day here in Australia and then converted it to SA time when I got there. (Ie 9am) I also did one shot on the plane calculating out the Aussie time (3 hours into our flight)

January - wishing you much love and light for you and your DH this week. 😀

    👋 hi to everyone else

AFM thanks for all your advice re: ankle surgery - I have managed to get my appointment moved forward to Friday so that if surgery is his recommendation (as we expect) it can be done before we leave.

I also have my appointment with our FS tomorrow morning to finalise details for our immune protocol including intralipids. I'm guessing it will all start to feel real then 😳 - just over six weeks until we fly out .. Eek!

    Blinky76 top stuff.

Yes I was going to do it that way too, such a lot to think about.

Great work with the ankle surgery. Makes good sense and fingers crossed it's all sorted.
