Default School not running a Vac care program over Dec/Jan

Eeeeeekkkkk. I have just found out that our school will not be running Vacation Care in the December/January school holidays!!@!!@!

Now I am panicking as I don't know what other options are available. I work 3 days a week and we can not afford a Nanny or a Sitter. There are no family available to help and no Family Day Care that can take 3 School age kids around here. I have called a few other Schools and the best they can do is put us on a wait list as they give priority to there students.

I have Christmas week and the week after off but need care for the rest. I new working with kids is challenging but Vacation care does my head (and wallet) in!

Any Suggestions appreciated. (We are in Rochdale South Qld)

Most vacation cares are open to students that go to other schools, so call around and see what's available.
My son use to go to upper mt gravatt and the after school care/vacation care at the school use to have kids from other schools attend, so they may be an option?
Also the pcyc at mt. Gravatt runs a vacation care from memory.

Thanks for the replies, I will try the PCYC at Springwood (Just looked up their website and the do Vacation care) and YMCA at Rochedale South. One of our main problems will be that my kids start Holidays a week earlier than the State Schools : O

You'd think they'd cater to private school holidays.. I hope they do

I have put in enrolment forms for the PCYC at Springwood but I won't know for a few weeks if they are accepted. Hopefully I am in early enough to get them all a spot. As for the week before normal QLD School Holidays....I am going to talk to MIL on the weekend to see if she can do a day or two and Hubby will take the other day off.

Working when you have school age children is so much harder than when they are just in daycare

So we have now finally found a place for them BUT the will be closed for two weeks from the 24th. .......it does not coincide with my/hubby's Christmas shut down which is also two weeks but starting the start of Christmas week!!!!! I feel defeated. I feel like it's just all too hard to work with multiple school aged children. It all feels very unfair and I am beyond frustrated!

maybe try your local community or recreation centre?

Universities also often run sports programs which are 'drop and leave' type things. (are - here you go)

Can you arrange a 'swap' with a school mum?
