You are better contained than me. I'd have punched her.
I've never punched anyone before but I'm fiercely protective and I don't think id have been able to control myself if someone spat on my child.

I'm shocked anyone would spit on another human let alone a child, and over something like a shopping basket. You handled it really well though, probably much better than I would have. I hope your daughter is ok.

I do exposures, unless she spat a mouthful of blood, the OP's DD won't catch anything nasty. And then it would have to go in an eye.

I'm so sorry, what an awful thing to have happened!
I think it would be worth following up with the police, just in case there's any footage etc.

To all those justifying hitting her etc....really!? What she did was awful, but you know nothing of this woman's situation. You seriously think it's okay to teach a kid that violence is justified by that behaviour?

Culture?! I'm Asian. Ok admittedly in some parts of Asia, people spit on the ground (which I think is gross!!) but on a child? No. No no no no no. Completely unacceptable. Even on any human being. Urgh, I'm kind of embarrassed that culture could even have tried to be used as an excuse for that disgusting behaviour...

Good on you for showing such restraint. I would not have had such grace or self control.

I just want to say that I would never hit a woman. Men who do so are cowards and deserve to be strung up.

Having said that, once my kids become threatened or attacked, all bets are off and I'd have probably headbutted that b!tch in the face. Good job OP, you have better self control than me! It's made me angry just reading your post!

If I was spat on in my job, and I have been plenty of times (but usually by disgusting feral people), that person is arrested, and we have to give statements. It is really a yucky thing to do. MIL thinks I need to let it go and get over it, as it's a 'cultural' thing. I don't buy that for a minute.

Unless she's part camel there's no culture that spits on kids. Filthy troll. I hope your dd's are ok. Please follow up with the police.
