Default *Trigger warning* Please explain why all my friends hate Halal food.

I think I must live under a rock. Just lately on FB I've noticed lots of people commenting on supermarket pages that they won't purchase Halal products and don't think supermarkets should stick them. Years ago I know there were welfare concerns about the meat products but that has now been resolved, so can someone explain why all the Halal bashing has started again.

And pleeeease don't laugh at me or my rock

If specifically in relation to meat slaughter, It may be the way the animals are killed if done under halal guidelines.
It can be quite traumatic and brutal.
Current Australian guidelines require the animals to be stunned prior to slaughter, which doesn't always happen.

Otherwise, perhaps it is an ignorance thing or racism due to the current climate in regards to Muslims and how they are being perceived.
If this is the reason, I would be saddened.

I haven't seen anything on my FB posts about halal dislike

It's because they are ignorant and dont really understand what it means. They are just jumping on the band wagon. I find it so stupid because most people don't realise just how much food they eat is halal and have probably never cared up until now.

Some people think because halal is Muslim it means it supporting terrorism, stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life. Some say "oh I just don't agree with giving money to a religious organisation to have it approved halal". But in reality most of them are just trying to mask racism.

Although I don't like the way the animals are slaughtered it still won't stop me chowing down on a halal kebab.

I had to hide a friend's posts from my news feed because she became completely OBSESSED with posting anti-halal propaganda.

All halal meat in Australia comes from animals that are stunned pre-slaughter. In the past it wasn't always, and Kosher stunning is done on conscious animals. They may be confusing the 2 though.

I have heard that anything that is halal approved, gives a portion of the company's money to Muslims in which case I don't agree because weather or not all Muslims are terrorists I believe personally that our people should come first in Australia. A lot of people don't agree with that and that's fine but that's just my opinion.

So true - I'm pretty sure they'd be mortified to find out their vegemite on tip top bread is certified halal! ( as are a majority of everyday supermarket brand foods !)

I remember this fb outcry a while back that Vegemite changed their recipe to become halal, why should we give in to *their* ways blah blah blah. I spent half my life trying to point out that nothing had changed except the word 'halal' on the label before I gave up and decided to let morons be morons.

Seriously, people get outraged about the most ridiculous things and don't bat an eyelid over the very dangerous and damaging things that this government and the previous have been doing over the past few years.

I doubt that would be true as most big brands are halal certified eg: Kellogg's, dairy farmers, nestle, Bellamy organic - just to name a few
