Default Struggling with 5 month old not sleeping in the day

Hi, My 5 month old will not settle for daytime sleeps unless being breastfed or cuddled. I've tried putting him in the cot, soft music playing, sleeping bag on, patting and ssshing and he will just scream and scream. I tried for 1.5 hours this morning, i really persevered, he slept for just 10 minutes! I've been advised to lay him in the cot when he's still awake so he can self settle but this really doesn't work and results in him screaming even more! I'm exhausted and have been going for drives in the car to avoid the dreaded nap time. Has anyone got any helpful tips? Thanks!

Have you spoken to the child health nurse about it?
Mine suggested I was missing DS's tired cues. So the last 2 days I've been really watching and sure enough I missed his first cues so he was getting over tired before I tried putting him down.
I won't say it's a miracle but today I've had a shower, washed my hair, made and drank coffee, made and ate sandwiches for lunch - things I could do because I didn't have screaming bub. I had sleeping bub
