I was using the one my brother gave me with the cot. 6yrs old after his 2 kids. At 13m I got my son a toddler bed and a new cot mattress for that and it's a lot more comfy. It's got latex.
I will def get bub 2 a new mattress but have also got him an amby hammock so I'll hold off getting the mattress straight away

Nope, DS1 and DS2 used the same mattress, DS3 had a new one because the previous one had been used for 4 years before he came along.

Because it's a SIDS reccomendation. They're not dear, I'd rather be safe than sorry

I thought you must have thought that (or something along those lines) to be so adamant, but sorry to tell you, it's not one of their recommendations...

    Straight from the SIDS website:

There is no evidence to show that there is an increased risk of SIDS for babies who sleep on a second hand mattress providing that baby:
    · Sleeps on the back
    · Sleeps on a flat, firm, clean, well fitting mattress that is in good condition
    · Sleeps with no bedding covering the face or head
    · Is not exposed to tobacco toxins before birth or after

Glad so many of you have done so and/or will do. DD1's mattress is in perfect condition so I didn't want to buy another one

@GM01 you beat me to it! Second hand mattresses are not SIDS risks.

On the other hand I did have to toss my bassinet mattress this week as it's got a bit of mould on it.
