    Default Building a house

So my husband & I have been house hunting for months for our "perfect" house, & nothing comes close.

So now we're contemplating the idea of buying a crappy house in the area we want, demolishing & building on the block.

But we need to do our sums to make sure it's a viable option.

Has anyone built a house? Does anyone know what I'd be looking at roughly, for a 4 bedroom, two bathroom house? (Including the build, as well as the inside fit out, of course I understand that there's a big difference in cost of different carpets, cupboards, etc)....

Where would I start, do I need to contact an architect?

Does anyone know of a house building forum? (Not sure if I'm allowed to ask that, mods, delete this lat comment if it's against the rules).

We were going to demolish and build our perfect 4x2, estimated costs $600k including fit out and some basic landscaping!

We ended up buying an established house we liked and doing minor renos, with more renos on the cards in a few years time.
