    Default WDYT? Lunch wine

    Hi All

Just wanted to get a bit of a consensus ...

Been in my new job (first full time role in Aus) around 8 months now and there are a few ladies in the office that lunch everyday and frequently have a glass or two of wine - sometimes a rum iced tea

Now I have never really experienced this before but they act like I am the oddball for not drinking - I just feel it is unprofessional?

I mean if it is a birthday maybe a glass or a 'business' lunch, a colleague leaving or something then it is a bit different but like most days of the week just because you can?

Just not sure if it is an acceptable thing here or its just my colleagues

That seems a bit odd to me but I guess it depends what you do. I work in healthcare and it is obviously a huge no no. I know people who's office has Friday afternoon drinks/nibbles every week but I don't think most days for lunch is ok. You are defiantly odd for not drinking,

I think it depends on the workplace. I have worked for a company that would frown on alcohol even at a lunch time Xmas party and I have worked for a company where it was quite normal to sit at your desk on a Friday afternoon finishing up work for the week with a glass of wine.

I think it depends on the workplace - transport industry, healthcare, teaching, etc no, but office staff etc I don't see an issue.

Used to be very common when I worked in law firms. Not since having kids. Personally I don't like working with people who have had a glass or two at lunch if I can smell it on their breath.

My main issue with this is I wouldn't get any work done after a lunchtime wino, I always need an afternoon nap if I have anything to drink with lunch!

Do you work in the city? I think it's pretty normal in the city.
