    Default WDYT? Lunch wine

    Hi All

    Just wanted to get a bit of a consensus ...

    Been in my new job (first full time role in Aus) around 8 months now and there are a few ladies in the office that lunch everyday and frequently have a glass or two of wine - sometimes a rum iced tea

    Now I have never really experienced this before but they act like I am the oddball for not drinking - I just feel it is unprofessional?

    I mean if it is a birthday maybe a glass or a 'business' lunch, a colleague leaving or something then it is a bit different but like most days of the week just because you can?

    Just not sure if it is an acceptable thing here or its just my colleagues

    That seems a bit odd to me but I guess it depends what you do. I work in healthcare and it is obviously a huge no no. I know people who's office has Friday afternoon drinks/nibbles every week but I don't think most days for lunch is ok. You are defiantly odd for not drinking,

    Yep. We do lunch vinos here too. If you are able to drive, you can work.

    wifey of hubby who is always away. mother of two girls who are always amusing.

    I think it depends on the workplace. I have worked for a company that would frown on alcohol even at a lunch time Xmas party and I have worked for a company where it was quite normal to sit at your desk on a Friday afternoon finishing up work for the week with a glass of wine.

    I think it depends on the workplace - transport industry, healthcare, teaching, etc no, but office staff etc I don't see an issue.

    Used to be very common when I worked in law firms. Not since having kids. Personally I don't like working with people who have had a glass or two at lunch if I can smell it on their breath.

    My main issue with this is I wouldn't get any work done after a lunchtime wino, I always need an afternoon nap if I have anything to drink with lunch!

    a glass of wine at each meal is good for you

    big no no in my industry (manufacturing) but all my friends in the city wine over lunch.
