    Yep, I'm with them ^
I'd ask your DH to chat with you before dishing out a week long punishment in the future.

I'd laugh at my DH and tell him to stop smoking or drinking whatever it was that made him make such a ludicrous suggestion (please note my DH does not smoke or drink at all LOL)

I'll put my hand up and say that my children watch way more than half an hour a day. And I'd still fight this suggestion. I do what I need to to get through the day. If that means allowing them to watch a bit of tv, I figure things could be much much worse than my kids watching a bit of tv

    Agreed with Vic here

Who made him ruler of you while he isnt even home?

If it was my dh trying to dominate my life and make it harder because he lacks creativity when it comes to dealing with the kids id tell him to phuck off.

Yep, override. That one goes in the too hard basket. Tv serves a function in this house too, it can be the difference between a calm peaceful evening and a frazzled strife-filled evening. It's certainly not something that is abused or over used.

And another thing. Parents make mistakes. There have been occasions we have backed down on punishments and explained it to the kids, and they appreciate the discussion. It's all part of learning to live together, and I've found it makes them more likely to trust me when I follow through on something

I'd tell him it was an absolutely dandy idea to ban TV for a month, hand him my weekly schedule and leave him to it.

I cant even write what I'd say to my Dh if he tried that!
Our agreed 'punishment' - if you could call it that is a certain time length ban on minecraft.. - that gets things done around here.
Suggest that he finds something (kind of harmless) but more personal than the family tv to ban. (Their fave game or toy etc..)

If he's not around to handle the kids while you're making dinner, then he has no right to tell you that you're doing the wrong thing. Tell him to get his head out of his ***, 30 mins of TV a day is nothing. You're not addicted to it, you're using it as a distraction for your kids while you sort out their dinner.
