Has anyone got suggestions on how to fatten up a piggy?

Ginny had been perfectly fine, but over the past week she seems to have lost a fair bit of weight and isn't drinking anywhere near as much as she had been, but seems to be eating okay (she gets a dry guinea pig mix and fresh fruit and veg daily)? Any ideas on why she may have dropped her water intake?

She seems healthy otherwise, in terms of eyes, skin, coat and teeth. It's just a weight thing?

@Lillynix, i am not sure but could be the heat? I always wet my veges esp the leafy greens for my pigs so they get that extra bit of fluid. Might be an idea to feed her leafy greens a few times a day that has been wet.

Thanks @Myztiks#1Fan but it's not a heat issue, it's been pretty chilly down here. I have been giving her small amounts of watermelon though, to try and get water in to her given she's not drinking as much.

I'll keep on eye on her over the next few days, if she doesn't improve, I'll take her to the vet

Only other thing i can think of @Lullynix is that she is sick as they hide illness quite well. Has she been eating lots of cucumber and celery? Just had a quick google and if she has been eating lots of those, she may not drink much.

Have a google perhaps. I would google more for you but gotta get all packed for weekend.

@Lillynix has your girl been spayed? One of our late girls dropped weight drastically at one point and I eventually found out she had ovarian cysts. It was only a short time later following the noticeable weight loss that she started losing her belly fur that really prompted me to take her to the vet.

I haven't posted here before. We have one little old lady left, mowei has just gone 6yrs. She came home for the weekend whilst the pet shop downstairs from where I use to work was rearranged and never left us. I will have to get a pic of her but currently stuck on the couch with ds asleep on me. When her time comes, dd is going to be lost without her. She's 2.5yrs and 'mo-mo' is her best buddy.

    Just an update

I ended up taking Ginny to the vet last Friday, he couldn't find anything wrong with her, other than her being under weight. He said her breathing, teeth, eyes and nose were all fine and clear and couldn't detect anything wrong with her heart. He was as stumped as I was.

She would eat all the fresh food I could give her, but even after changing her dry food, she slowly stopped eating that as well (when she previously was devouring it), and still wasn't drinking any water. She passed away overnight. The children were very sad this morning, but understood.

I have no idea what happened, she was going great guns, then rapidly went down hill. I guess that can happen with small animals, I had the same thing happen to one of my rats as a teen
