It's safer that the decision is made for me, no mater how much I want to fight it. I get far to emotionally involved to make a rational decision.

The biggest factor being advanced maternal age, people such as myself delaying pregnancy til later in life, when obstacles would naturally occur anyway. With the introduction of low cost IVF facilities such as TFC, IVF is an affordable option, some people don't even go to the trouble of having preliminary investigations for infertility, many going to the extent of lying about the duration of ttc to get a referral. Not everyone undergoing treatment needs it. I don't think it is appreciated just how difficult achieving a natural pregnancy is without having any infertility issues. I've had friends of mine say.. "It took AGES for us to get pregnant (5 months of trying), I was convinced I had a problem". Another month or so and they'd have been at the doctor claiming to have been trying for over a year.
It's an amazing advancement in reproductive medicine and I'm so grateful for it, but I am cautious.. I was reluctant to jump on the IVF bandwagon. I wanted to know WHY I was having trouble conceiving after 3 years of trying, and WHAT I could do to help. Did I try hard enough?? Probably not. Timing ovulation is very intricate and some months that was just a pain in the butt.

I was the same Pap, it's the medical background I think. My bestie got the sh!ts the other day because she started trying in March so she could conceive in April and was upset it didn't happen until May. I lost it, was she bloody serious? Because it's such big business FS are just doing it. I do think that the criteria needs to be a bit stricter. More IUI for unexplained infertility (used to be minimum 6 rounds). I also think people want sympathy and attention so play a self pity game. A few weeks ago I was having breakfast with some friends and 3 out of 4 said they were gonna do IVF so they could get twins and get it over with. Not sure why anyone would willingly want to do this, they really have no idea.

Oh Meshell. How are you feeling about it all?

I agree Ngaiz. Needs to be tighter legislation. So many risks involved, why put yourself through that unnecessarily??
