My sister and I use to post letters to each other outside of our bedroom doors with letter boxes made out of cardboard.
We use to play hotels make out beds with the specially folded towels at the end of the bed.

We used to play games like mums, teachers, jails :/ We mostly played with Barbie's, dolls, puppy surprises and read a lot of books. We used to spend a lot of time riding our bikes, we would be gone most of the day!

We played with barbies and legos
Also rode our bikes a lot! Out in the morning and back before sunset in the summer - oh to live in the 80's in the country where this is what little kids did!
Went to the swimming pool all day
    Played cards and board games
    Cooked for mum and dad

Having a sibling made this easier i think.

Haha we did the letter boxes at our bedroom doors too.

    - Read
    - Rollerskating/rollerblading on the back patio
    - Riding bikes
    - on weekends in warmer months we'd harass dad to take us to the local pool for a swim (they had a couple of water slides or we'd just splash around in the lap pool while dad swam laps)
    - dad had a set of carpet bowls, so we'd play carpet bowls in the lounge room (we were really exciting haha)
    - watch tv/movies.
    - play some computer games... This is early 90s (Carmen Sandiego, trivial pursuit for kids, space invaders, and when the computer froze which was often, we would play checkout chick as the computer beeped when you pressed any key on the keyboard )
    - Board games
    - Card games (uno, snap, fish, old maid, solitaire/patience, jig quiz)
    - Lego!

More often than not though, you'd find us reading. We devoured books as kids. Our attention span for electronics lasted long enough for a single movie, but we could spend 8hrs reading without trouble.

I played with my dolls. I was such a little mother. I loved, loved, loved my dolls. I also played outside a lot...on the trampoline, running around the yard making up games based on a television show I adored (but can not remember the name of it for the life of me), and I rode my bike all the time. When I couldn't play outdoors I read.
My kids play pretty similar to what I did though...we don't own any game consoles and the tv is off until after clean up time before showers and dinner.

How did I forget reading? It was the single most likely thing you'd find us doing as kids!

My sister and I played barbies a lot. We had a massive collection between us.

We also used to play school.

We had a big backyard so had bikes, trampoline, totem tennis and basketball hoop to play with. We would make fairy gardens out there, or have scavenger hunts.

We also loved to bring our portable cassette tape player outside and dance around on the trampoline and put concerts on.

Rode my bike, played with toys, read books and did a LOT of playing in sand for some reason.
