Chat with the specialist did not go well. Turns out they suspect a major chromosomal abnormality that has had no indications until now. Had an amnio and will get the results late next week. I don't see much hope. He basically said that even if this turns out ok we'd have to be prepared to find something out later. I can't believe this is happening. How can something this awful be found out so late?
@Sally1981... I honestly can't imagine how you are feeling right now. I read that post and my heart sunk. This is beyond creul and unfair. My fingers, toes and everything else I have will remain crossed & I will hope for any kind of miracle that its not as bad as they are suggesting.

@Sally1981 - Heartbroken for you that you have this terrible possible news and even more terrible wait I too can't believe nothing has been picked up before now when you've obviously had nice reassuring results from your NT scan and Harmony bloods, not to mention all of your Ob scans along the way. I'm sending you wishes of strength and hope that you're surrounded in love and support during this anxious time. Miracles can and do happen all the time so I hope with all of my heart that you get yours with a perfectly healthy bub or at the absolute worst, something so tiny and insignificant, that's it's barely anything to worry about in the end anyway. Lots of love Xxx

Oh my gosh Sally. I'm so sadened to hear this. what a cruel unfair blow to the already rough run you've had. This is so unfair. i really hope they are just being cautious and preparing you for an absolute worst case scenario- one that will never happen. ... i hope the amnio comes back all clear and you can prove them all wrong with a happy healthy, just small, baby. huge hugs.

Thank you ladies. Thing is that even if the tests come back clear I think that means they just haven't found the problem yet. These things tend to crystallise at over 30 weeks and then if we decide to terminate we will be at the mercy of the ethics panels. If the amnio comes back fine I'll have another scan in two weeks. If the issues haven't resolved I don't think we can continue with this pregnancy. I can't stop crying.

It is surely a good sign that they saw nothing else wrong on the scan. I wouldn't be thinking of the worst just yet it could be something as simple as your placenta isn't working as well as it should causing slower growth in baby this happened to my mother in law and all of her babies were only 5 or 6 pounders and not long babies. Until you have all of the info from the amniocentesis if that comes back fine and they still think there may be something wrong then I would get a second, third and even fourth opinion before making any rash decisions about aborting. You are welcome to tell me to rack off of course
Hi mushy, don't worry I like opinions like this because it gives a good view in a respectful, sympathetic way. Trouble is that when I back in to talk to the geneticist, he told me they suspected that the head was malformed, and it was specifically the femur that was significantly short (2 weeks behind). When looking at my results over the course of the pregnancy I have 5 markers for chromosomal issues - bleeding for 14 weeks, high hcg, low Papp a, strawberry shaped head and a short femur. These doctors aren't talking about dealing with this quickly either, they're talking about waiting for another 3 months of bad scans before they want me to make a decision at 32 weeks because it will become clear that there's a really serious issue with the baby. I don't know what to do, to be honest, I wish it was just a small baby because there's things you can do about that, or at least try.

@Sally1981 I can't see how they can ask you to terminate at 32 weeks? That's almost term?

They don't ask you to terminate exactly, they just make it very very clear over and over again that they will 'support you if you choose to go down that road'. Basically it means they are now certain that your child is going to be born to a short life of pain and torment. Trouble is that they don't exactly support you going down that road earlier and with less evidence than you may have at 32 weeks, even if there's many signs pointing that way at 20 weeks. The way this doctor was talking was as if there's no difference between 20 and 32 weeks.
