Not exactly the same situation but DP has a serious heart condition and we've been through a few surgeries and have recently been told it may progress to needing a heart transplant. It doesn't matter the situation, when your partner is unwell it sits in the bottom of your stomach unlike any pain you've ever felt before. I don't know how to help you cope, but I can tell you that you will find strength in yourself you never knew you had and you will make it through this no matter the outcome. Don't forget to look after yourself too, don't let anyone tell you that you're not just as important or hurting just as much. I'm so sorry OP, from the bottom of my heart I hope it all works out for you.
