Not sure I agree that calling someone a "douche" is posting politely, actually.

And please note, I said the post was lacking in class, not the poster. I would never be that rude.

Default A statement we can all agree on ...

I think it is entirely possible for a staunch Liberal supporter to despise Joe Hockey :-) but, you know, it's meant to be just a light thread.

ETA I can think of at least one mod who is definitely not politically impartial and has stated her (staunch Liberal) views a number of times. It's never occurred to me that being a mod would mean you couldn't offer a political opinion.

@J37 you can still support the liberals and think he's a moron though? I mean I am staunchly left but critically evaluate the individuals that make up the party.

Based on what's he's said over the past 72 hours how can even the staunchest supporter defend him?

True, and I do agree that Joe Hockey would be unlikely to get "Best Speaker" in a Debating Competition.

@J37 - to explain my position a little

I am generally a Liberal supporter - which many who take an interest in the political threads here know.

I Did vote Liberal (though dislike Abbot pretty intensely) and have actually felt a bit sorry for Joe Hockey lately.

Whether he has liked it or not, he has had to sell an extremely unpopular budget which will hurt a lot of people ...

    BUT

His recent comments about driving were moronic. To make such stupid comments is one thing - I could have perhaps forgiven a monumental gaffe of that standard maybe ... IF he had apologised straight away

But to try and defend that position for 2 days before being told he had to apologise and back down is just so, so wrong. To not realise how incredibly offensive that position was the instant he said it ... its just mind boggling.

    He has lost me ...

In the spirit of keeping this thread light...I have actually had a mental image of you as a "Left-Wing Lawyer" Sonja!! But despite this, I generally enjoy your posts!!

What he said was silly, and poorly-worded, but I honestly believe he was having a "moment" (albeit lasting a few days!)...and yes, I do believe that he wants to do the best for the country. That is my honest opinion.

I drove an hour to and from work every weekday for 2 years, to make $450 a week! Dp and I were dirt poor! I really really dislike joe hockey.

Also I don't feel like this was posted as a debate thread. Maybe more of a light hearted post in light of some of the negativity we've seen on BH in the last couple of days. Sometimes you're going to get your feelings trampled on and not everything can be politically correct.
