    Default 4 year old nightmares

4 year old DS has started waking at night crying saying he has had a bad dream. He is also scared going to bed and is quite worried about monsters.

We have had many conversations about monsters just being in people's imaginations and stories, not real, our house is secure, no one/nothing can get in at night etc. This morning he said he kept his eyes open all night last night (he did not he was asleep when I went to bed and he woke with a bad dream later on) so he would not have a bad dream.

I've talked about how in dreams you can have magical powers and chase the monsters away.

Has anyone got any suggestions about anything I can read/do/show him to help him get over this fear?

I've heard success with the 'magic spray' that you spray just before bed (in cupboards, under the bed etc) that gets rid of any 'scaries'

My son turned 4 a month ago and went through this for about 2 weeks. I got a night light for him Nd turn it off when I go to bed and he is back to sleeping 11 hours straight again.

I talked about the magic spray and he was not impressed!

I hope it is a phase, although the 2 year old is starting up with it now as she has heard her brother talk about monsters and being scared
