    Default Sciatic Endometriosis?

Anyone have any experience with sciatic endometriosis?

I have known I have endo for years, diagnosed when I was 20 but I'm sure it had been around for a few years before that. I had a lap a few weeks ago and it was removed from my ovaries, but most of my pain is still there, really strong still. Part of my pain has always been really bad sciatic pain, from about 4dpo till my AF finishes. It makes me limp for that time, and aches so badly. I always thought it was some of my ovary/pouch of douglas endo causing that but thats removed and the pain is still there....been doing some reading about sciatic nerve endo and it sounds like its something I should look into...
    But my questions are:

How is it diagnosed? Can MRI pick it up? What specialist should I ask to be referred to, its not a gyno condition is it?

I have no answers to your questions I'm afraid, just sympathy. I have the same pain after being diagnosed at 14yo. I'd heard the term sciatic endometriosis but I can't add anything helpful I'm afraid

Thank you for replying anyway, I'm sorry you are suffering too. If I get any answers after my appointment with my surgeon I will post back here

Hi there, I also can't help with the sciatic pain stuff, but I did find that after the laps I had it took a couple of months/couple of cycles for things to settle down properly and to feel less pain. I'm hoping for you it might just be a case of that rather than sciatic endo. Hope you feel better soon

Hi Just*Ace, Sorry, I have no answers either but thought I'd post as it's something I've been wondering about lately myself. I have had endo with varying pain for ages but in the last couple of years I've had bad back pain, quite crippling & am convinced the endo is to blame. Had a lap about 7 months ago, hoped it would help but it didn't. My specialist basically said to try to locate the real cause of the pain/any endo deposits in places outside the scope of a normal lap would be too difficult & risks would outweigh benefits. He wasn't keen on the idea of sciatic endo & thinks referred pain is more likely. I'm not really ok with leaving it at that but like yourself I'm not sure where to go next. In the meantime tho I have gone on the pill & found that my back pain has disappeared. Only been on it 5 weeks & haven't had a break yet as doing it back to back for 'management', but it's food for thought I guess. Sorry, that's been a bit of a ramble! I would second what Pearlygirl has said though - I've had a number of laps & it does usually take a couple of periods for things to settle down so fingers crossed you may still find an improvement. Good luck & I hope that someone will respond to your post with some helpful info. Take care x

Thanks for your replies ladies xxx
I keep hoping it is just pain because those areas have had endo cut out so of course they could still be healing and getting irritated, so I will give it another cycle or 2 before I start trying to get referrals. Im a bit annoyed with the surgeon who did my surgery as he tried to talk to me in recovery when I was still so out of it so I only know they took ovary endo I don't know about any other areas and won't know till my appointment at end of this month. Hopefully he can give me some answers then! The pill has been recommended but we have been TTC for a while, hoping the lap helped with that!
