Also, children with immune suppressed family members may avoid live vaccines, as they can make immune suppressed people sick.

    Let me rephrase this thread...

I go into the breastfeeding section, and start a thread:

Why on earth are there people who don't breastfeed?

An answer to that thread goes like this:

Posted by Kititk: it is irresponsible, selfish and goes against community expectations.

Is that thread going to be allowed? Hmmmm....... Let me see.......

MASSIVE double standards here letting non-vax bashing happen constantly...

Btw this is not meant to offend. It is just my opinion, and is in the pro vax section for a reason ;-)

People who have children/family members that have contracted vaccine preventable diseases are understandingly going to feel very strongly about the issue.
Oh so I can go into the breastfeeding section and bash formula feeders can I? No, actually, it doesn't work like that.

This is a PRO vax section, NOT a bash the non-vaxxers section.

That's an absolutely shocking thing to say to someone who just said their very young infant was seriously ill and in hospital with an illness that likely was contracted from someone who chose not to vaccinate. She used that as a (very valid) example to illustrate why she feels strongly about vaxxing, and even generously stated at the end of the statement "but that's just my opinion", not meaning to cause offence.

    Terrible.

When you've had a child contract a VPD and be hospitalised with it, it truly is hard to understand why people dont vaccinate. I dont doubt there are valid reasons for some but there are many misinformed people who make the decision based on incorrect information and the advice of people who use scaremongering tactics.

So I can post in vaginal birth section asking why on earth all women don't have vaginal births?

And if the OP actually did want to know she should of posted in the pro-non vaccinating section. Not that that would of stopped the disrespectful comments.

I honestly don't think the thread has turned into a non-vaxxers bashing thread.

The difference between this and formula is that your feeding choices for your baby doesn't affect anyone else, whereas those who are unable to be vaccinated due to age or medical reasons rely on the herd immunity of the community to protect them. So making the choice to vaccinate or not to vaccinate does affect other people.
    This.

Everyone I know who chooses not to vaccinate starts their sentences off with `I believe'.......so I guess their beliefs? I would like to see some scientific evidence, but that's just me.

The reason vax is nothing like breastfeeding, cloth nappying or circumcising is you are impacting no one but your own family (and the environment I guess) by those choices. Not vaccinating can have negative, even deadly impacts on others in the community. I guess that is why people feel they have a vested interest in vaccination and what other people choose.
