Thanks for thinking of us! We've been busy these last few days settling into a routine of visiting DS in the nursery and fitting in expressing, housework etc. I have to sort out a new cleaner!

DS has made some really good improvements, he pulled out his tube for the ventilator, the cheeky boy, but did well on Cpap after that which is now being weaned, and the PDA has closed after the treatment with ibuprofen. He's been intolerant of feeds so only getting tiny amounts but the IV nutrition is working as he's put on a good amount of weight, he's 1397g today! The doctors were surprised at how much he's put on an wondered if the initial birth weight was not accurate.

I'm feeling a lot better, still get anxious at times but not so bad as I was. We put an announcement on Facebook which I was initially hesitant about but all the lovely comments were so nice. Oh and we got a cuddle finally, once he was on the Cpap. It was so lovely to hold him. DP and I had a nice lunch out in Subiaco today to celebrate DS reaching one week old.

Still a long road to go but I am feeling quite positive right now with his progress.

Oh, I'm so glad to hear that! His birth weight must surely have been wrong! My DS was 51cm when born and 48cm when he was measured at 4 weeks...birth weights and lengths can definitely be wrong!

Flower, thank you so much for updating this thread. I've been thinking about you, DP and DS a lot and I'm so glad things are going in a positive direction. It's wonderful your little boy was well enough for you to get your first cuddle. Enjoy your lunch out - you have a wonderful little fighter worth celebrating.

The last week has been a bit up and down, but DS has pulled through pretty well. It's good to have been prepared that things don't always go smoothly. DS developed a blood infection from a long IV line, and was very sick mid week, with low heart rate and had to increase his Cpap. He had a lumbar puncture and X-rays and they found the infection in blood cultures. Since the antibiotics he's much better and trying cycling off Cpap again. Still having trouble absorbing milk- not sure how long that might go on, I'm hoping not long as he will need IV lines until he tolerates the full feeds. I'm making lots of milk though, ready for when he needs it!

DP and I are doing pretty well but next week DP has to go back to work, hoping we will manage that ok. Getting quite tired but that's to be expected! Hope you are all doing well.

Glad to hear the antibiotics worked well for the infection.. it's exactly the same as what my DD developed after the long line was inserted and she was very sick from it.

Hopefully it's onwards and upwards from here.

Sorry to hear of bubs infection but glad to hear that he has responded well to the antibiotics. Hopefully he continues to improve day by day - it really is a rollercoaster! Thinking of you all xx

its so hard when they are sick like that - much more so because they are soooo tiny and struggle so much already.
