Hey ladies, I am looking into starting Ivf at westmead around the beginning of next year, what's the wait time like and do I need a referral to book?
I'm hoping our last try at getting pregnant naturally works but my fs is pushing for Ivf if it doesn't.

@CinderElla88 - yes, you will need a referral before you meet with them. You choose a doctor, and get in touch - wait times to see them for an initial appointment will vary. So hard to know! x

I don't see my fs again until feb so I wouldn't be able to get a referral until then, but should I book before then?

Hi Ella, you can just get a referral from your GP to get you started. It took about 2-3 months for me to get into the first cycle. 6 week wait to get into FS, a few weeks to do nurse appt and other tests and scans and then a few weeks waiting for my cycle to sort out to start x

Wow thanks bel that's what I thought, dh said to wait and see if what we are doing works and then worry about it but I said it might take ages to get in and get started.

I see Dr Bradbury, she is very nice and we have been happy with her but I know a few ladies with complicated histories that have needed to move on from her after not having success x

I was shocked at how quickly it could all happen. My longest wait was for a laparoscopy under Medicare which took 5 months. Once I was given the all clear to start by the FS it was very quick. The Dr I saw no longer works with Westmead so I will need to find a new one for baby #2.

Congrats for booking your first appt. Hopefully you don't need it!

Hi everyone! Wow it's been ages since I have checked in and looks like heaps has been happening! @mrsjaguar I hope AF gets a move on and arrives soon! @Ever1013 congratulations on Baby Isobel! How gorgeous!! @SoReal I was so sorry to read your post, what bad timing! I hope you had a lovely birthday with all your family and friends x @CinderElla88 Yay for your appointment!! Good luck with everything! I see Dr Fong, she is lovely! I had to get a GP referral as it lasts 12 months where as the FS referrals only last 3 months! Fingers crossed for you!

So I had my first nurses appointment the other week with Cathy.. she was lovely and made me feel less nervous about the entire process! Have started a long down reg cycle and started my first lot of injections last week...wow talk about daunting! I honestly didn't think I could do it to myself but somehow I have been able to! Hubby can't even look at needles so there was no hope in asking him to help lol!!

I go back for another appointment with the nurses on Tuesday to start the stim cycle so I am hoping everything goes well so we can do a transfer in October. Fingers crossed! Am a little nervous about having to have the egg retrieval and everything but I'm sure it will all be fine.... I'm hoping they let me have some blood tests and ultrasounds done in Bathurst otherwise I will be doing a lot of driving in the next few weeks lol!

Hope you are all keeping well!
    Lorna x

Wow Lorna. That is quite a commute. Hope they let you do some things locally. All the best for your upcoming cycle!
