    Default Tax question

Im just throwing it out there as im desperate.... last financial year (2012-2013) we misplaced several receipts worth allot of money we could have claimed for deductions. We ended up having to file without these items, breaking our hearts in the process.

Well this financial year (2013-2014)low and behold - we have found them!!!

My question - can we claim these on our tax return if we can legitimately prove we didnt claim them for the year we meant to?

There are a few accountants on here who could give you a definite answer. I believe that you cannot claim them against this year's income. You may be able to lodge an amendment to last year's return to include them and receive an additional refund (or reduction in liability).

    what stretched said is correct.

You will need to lodge an amendment for last year, not include it in this year.

Its easy enough to do, so if the amendment makes a big difference, I would go ahead and do it.

That's right, you will need to lodge an amendment.
