Default Does everyone do a dating scan and when is it done?

    Hi all,

Just a little question if anyone can advise.

I am 5 weeks and my GP is currently away on holidays!! Grrrr, went to the local clinic and had my blood test, everything normal, levels good. But last pregnancy I used shared care between my GP and my OB.

I wont see my GP until the 24th July which will make me just over 6 weeks.

I'm wondering if by the time I see him how soon I will need to see the OB and at what stage I will have a scan.

I had DS 5 years ago, my memory is like a fish and I cant remember when I did what the last time! haha!

Any thoughts, should I call and book an appt with OB and make it just after my GP appt so I can bring the referral????

    Thanks!

Congratulations!! I don't think you need to see the OB that early unless there is some reason to suspect complications. I didn't have my dating scan until almost 9 weeks, so 6-7 weeks is fine. You don't usually see the heartbeat etc until after 6 weeks

Agree, I wouldn't worry about any scans til at least 8 weeks. The risks have dropped significantly by then and you will see a heartbeat for sure.
    Congrats on your pregnancy!

    Congrats
I went private so I saw private ob at 6 weeks for a date scan but I don't believe it's standard practice in public

    Congratulations!

I didn't have a dating scan with DD as I was sure of my dates, but had one with this pregnancy. I couldn't be booked in until at least 7 weeks, they refused to see anyone for dating scan prior to that, so seeing your GP at 6+ weeks should be fine :-)

I did not have a dating scan done. When I eventually saw my GP at 9 weeks I had a bedside informal scan done, but my first official scan was at 12 wks 6 days.

    Thanks everyone!
My first pregnancy was a little complicated in the first trimester so had scans and Dr visits frequently!
I shall wait for my gp then.
Would love to see the bean as soon as possible though!

This is my first pregnancy and I am not getting a dating scan because my gp said I know my dates.. I have just been given the paper work for my 12 week scan and booked in. Now it's the waiting game!

I was sure of my dates but my gp wanted a dating scan. Was told by ob didn't need to book in till after twelve week scan, I had my dating at nine weeks and it wasn't meant to be for me.
