I went to Target to get one of those old-fashioned knitted bouncy chairs and came out with a $120 Fisher Price Open Top Swing (they didn't have any of the ones I actually wanted).
My DD actually didn't like the swinging motion at all until she was about 7 months old! She liked the music, but as with most of these types of things, she was bored within about 15-20 minutes. But if that's all it takes to keep you from going bonkers, then I think it's worth it.
I just recently sold mine on ebay as we live in a unit and it was just another thing that is not longer really used and is taking up space.

The Maclaren one is very good and is electronic but it doesnt rock itself it just vibrates.
