Default How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?

I can understand me son (4yrs old) fine but I notice when he talks to others they often have trouble understanding him not sure if this is just because he is only 4or if it is something more.

My son went when he was 2 and omg did it change him he was a different kid he said words but clear sorta muffled if u feel he is not where he should be I'd deffinAtly mayb see a speech therapist u will get in quicker private and if ur covered u can claim it is a bit of wIt public.
Can I ask does he get ear infections or have problems with his ears? My son also had gromits put in as he was hearing us clear sorta like being underwater trying to hear someone talk it all plays together mayb get his ears checked too incase. No harm in doing it.
It's amazing the progress they have in therapy but it's well worth every cent in my eyes especially since it can affect their learning development.
Hope this has helped and u figure out what u are going to do mums know best they say go with what u think and feel I did everyone said don't worry well if I did listen to them who know what he would be like and also his behaviour improved too.

At 4 years of age a child's speech should be 100% intelligible to strangers or very close to.. There may still be some articulation errors but overall he should be able to be understood. If you are having concerns it is best to speak to your pediatrician.

My 4yo has been on the waiting list since last Oct, I am about to see our doctor about a mental health plan and doing this enables you to some free private sessions. He was accessed pretty quickly through public but then put on the waiting list, also needs a hearing test.
I understand everything he says he just has trouble with pronunciations of words like d and l words. He can make the sound on its own say the word but when put in a sentence will change the letters. Like I love lots of people, he will say I wove what's of people.
    Good luck
