Help needed! I'm making my nephew's birthday cake and using fondant for the first time. I've cooked two mudcakes, but unfortunately, one of the cakes stuck to the bottom of the tin. So one of the cakes has an uneven bottom, and the side is partially missing. I was going to ice/fondant in the morning. Should I trim both cakes smaller, effectively Chopping off the ruined side or can I fill it in with buttercream icing? I could possibly start again if I can get to woolies super early. Thoughts?

If there is a huge chunck missing I would trim, if it's not so big I would just patch it up with buttercream, I'd do it before so it stays in the fridge over night, a crumb coat is always better when it spends a good amount of time in fridge.

Thanks @sparklebug. I'll do what you've suggested, although I won't be able to put it in the fridge overnight. I can try putting it in the freezer for a few hours after the crumb coat. Fingers crossed it turns out ok!

Lion king birthday cake turned out a treat, despite the cake sticking to the pan! Wasn't what I had planned originally, my lion king figurines didn't arrive in time I had to improvise. Rather impressed seeing as though it was my first attempt at fondant1437904571513.jpg1437904585132.jpg1437904598076.jpg1437904607911.jpg
