Thanks for asking that question. After seeing a recipe and description, yet never really having red velvet myself, I'm rather deflated and disappointed. Red velvet cupcakes sounded yummy but it seems it is not much more than a chocolate sponge style cake with cream cheese frosting. Still OK but not the fireworks and confetti I was assuming it was.

Try making them for yourself - Magnolia Bakery has a very good recipe which you can google and I hope you'll be pleasantly surprised. It's one of my favourite cakes.
I will do that. I must have skimmed passed the vinegar/butter milk bit. I know a few people who have said that the packet cake mix and coke recipe tastes just like the red velvet cupcakes. I will look forward to trying it out then. Just not until at least next week though. I will update when done.

Who knew that @btmac would be Rain Man about red velvet cake?

    Today's sweet efforts:

and melting moments with choc hazelnut filling (which accidentally tastes exactly like the centre of Ferrero Rochers):

    Ha ha sorry.

The slice is from taste and the biscuits are just the 40 sec biscuits and choc hazelnut spread from the EDC.
