    I don't like the texture of playdoh, it weirds me out- but have you seen the recipes that use jelly crystals?

    This is one I have used for years -
    ½ cup salt
    1 cup plain flour
    2 tablespoons cream of tartar
    1 cup water
    1 tablespoon oil
    Food colouring

    Method

    Mix all ingredients together in a medium sized saucepan.
    Stir over heat until dough is pliable.
    Allow to cool and store in a well sealed plastic bag or container.
    ....but after years and years of making it I have to confess that these days my recipe consists of -
    * drive to Big W
    * locate toy section
    * find tub of playdough, select colour of choice
    * proceed to check out
    * hand over $10
    * return home and spend the next week picking bits of fluro pink out of the carpet
