Default Low HCG levels, even after 48 hours

    Hi folks
a dear soul I know has just been confirmed pregnant , through IVF, and she has had a HCG come back at 89 and 48 hours later it had only risen by 6 . Understandably she is feeling awful, thinking she is going to have a MC. Can anyone shed a bit of light of information that I can relay back to her ? Is it over for her?
    Thanks in advance!

Hey blossom. Hcg should rise every 48-72 hours. How many days post transfer is she? It is likely to be a chemical pregnancy but that's not to say it may not progress into a perfectly healthy pregnancy. She probably needs to keep a close eye on any pain as ectopic pregnancies often have slow rising hcg.

Thanks possum, she is 18DPO . I looked on the chart that's on here and it looks like it can go either way, some report really low hcg and go on to have healthy bubs. Gosh, it's a stressful journey IVF, isn't it!

The first number is totally fine (my first one at 9dp5dt was 93) - but I think it's the second one that's concerning. I had a few days of panic when my second beta 48 hours later hadn't doubled, but it had risen a tiny bit more than hers.

All I can suggest is a repeat beta to check her level AND progesterone if it's an IVF one. Hugs and support. xx

Ok... this pregnancy is still in early days, so just let her know that. (I'm 5+2)

    14dpo was 93
    16dpo was 145

Unfortunately the GP didn't take progesterone results... but she did tell me that my numbers were on the low side and that the lack of doubling was concerning. I had a meltdown that night & called my IVF specialist in tears, and they had me come in the following day.

17dpo was 246. I asked what my progesterone was & she said 'perfectly high' but didn't give me the levels unfortunately. Is your friend on pessaries?

It can definately go either way but as mrsjaguar said, she should get another one done with progesterone as well. In my time on BH I have seen successful pregnancies from numbers as low as 17. FX for her.

I should add, my first pregnancy was a hcg level of 25 (!) at 14dpo - but it had jumped quite a bit by 17dpo. It really can be different per pregnancy. I wish her the best of luck! (I'm still a little nervous, won't relax until that 7 week scan at the very least...)
