    Default Sutherland Hospital???

    Hey guys,
I just wanted to hear from anyone that has been to the Sutherland Hospital (south Sydney).
I believe they do both public and private, I would love to hear what your experience was like at either… I have PHI, but I am pretty broke as well.. so not sure how much I would be out of pocket?

    Thanks for your help!

I gave birth at Sutherland and was very happy there. They encourage natural birth and the labour ward only has one and two bed rooms.

I went public. The only real drawback with that is that when you go for your check ups, it's often a different OB/midwife each time you go. You may be able to pay for your OB, if your keen to see the same one each time, but go public for the birth? If it's a straight forward pregnancy then I don't think it matters.

I've birthed at Sutho x3. Each time was brilliant, I would definitely recommend them. I was public. With my last baby (a few years ago now!) they had introduced a continuity of care thing where you would (mostly) see the same midwife each time, which was nice.

    oh great thanks guys...
It really seems like there isn't a real reason to use Private.
Does anyone know how much extra you do pay for private?

I gave birth at sutho too and it was great! I had my own room and lots of help and support from the midwifes. We recently moved out of the area but id love to have number 2 there if I can.

Also want to add that towards the end of my pregnancy I had complications and although I saw several obs over a couple of days, theres one head ob who overlooks you so I felt very safe. All the obs are great too!

I moved to Sutherland when I was 35 weeks pregnant and had all my checks at royal North shore, I was very lucky that they only just managed to get me in as I didn't want to be traveling a hour in labour.
I had a more welcoming vibe from Sutherland and loved the experience, the nurses would even take my daughter for walk though the corridor so I could try relax and rest
