Default Gender reveal or a surprise for no. 2?

Hubby and I are expecting baby #2 and are unsure whether to find out the sex this time. For #1 we kept it a surprise and I loved that! But this time we are wondering -

    1. Do we go for a different experience and find out this time?

    2. Is it easier on DS1 if we can tell him that he is having a 'brother' or 'sister' and not just a baby?

Anybody been in the same boat? Advice and experiences would be appreciated!

We ummed and ahhed about finding out gender with #2 (didn't with #1). In the end we didn't, and were happy with our decision for a second surprise I don't think not knowing gender made any difference when talking about bub with DS1, but he was only 2y3m when DS2 was born, so not really old enough to understand the whole gender thing anyway.

I didn't find out with my first but we probably will this time. With lots of boy stuff here, I will like the chance to get rid of it and buy some girl things before I finish working. We will keep the gender to ourselves though.

In pregnant with number two, we found out with both.
I found I was more desperate to know with my second. I wanted a girl so badly I needed time to deal with the idea of a boy before baby is born. We are having a girl so I've been able to relax and enjoy the pregnancy more.

We tossed up so much whether to find out with no 2 after a surprise first. In the end I decided neither of us felt strongly enough that we wanted to find out so we wouldn't. We both said if the other wanted to know we would but were happy for another surprise. Once the scan was over and the temptation was gone its been fine and we're both happy with that choice. We had so much neutral left over from our first that we haven't needed to buy much and my sister lent me some of her neutral newborn clothes too. Dd just refers to as bubba, despite my asking her if she's having a brother or sister lol.

We only found out with no 6. We wanted dd1 to be there for it as she had moved away before the birth.

    Personally I prefer the surprise.

We didn't find out the gender with #1 or #2. We liked the surprise. The only reason we found out with #3 is I wanted to know whether I was keeping or giving away all the pink stuff we had accumulated.

We found out with number one and then had a surprise with number two. The surprise was absolutely awesome and DD was so stoked with her baby that she didn't care whether it was a boy or girl (she was 2yrs 5months). I wanted another surprise with number three but it was a high risk pregnancy and I had so many scans that it became pretty obvious what we had on board!

Thanks so much for all your replies! It sounds like a great experience either way, so I guess hubby and I will just have to discuss it and make a decision! I have said that I am not fussed if I find out, so if he wanted to know I would be happy to find out.

I am kind of hoping for a girl this time, so maybe it would be a good idea to find out like you said @darla87!

We didn't find out with our first. It was amazing.
We did find out with our 2nd and I'm glad we did. I thought we were having a boy so was a bit upset when we found out she was a girl but of course very happy and thankful for our baby girl.

I'm currently pregnant with our 3rd and last baby. I'm still un decided about finding out.. If I do find out, I'm going to ask the scan tech to write it down and seal it in an envelope so we can find out in private.
i would love a suprise again, but the birth is still amazing either way and I think with 2 little ones already it will just be easier if I am prepared with clothing ect
