    New dishwasher arrived and DP installed it - yay! even though it did ask for 'dishwasher salt' and i'd never heard of it!
    Now eating peanut butter tim tams - yummo!

    Dishwasher salt is just rock salt or you can use pool salt, the large grain stuff... It's sold on Europe as 'dishwasher salt' but just confuses people in Australia! I used to work at a distributor that sold Miele dishwashers, this question came up all the time!

    Isn't it weird that all these european appliances need additional things like salt!

    It's to do with softening the water which makes it more compatible with soap/detergent... Our water hardness level isn't as bad as in Europe which I think us the reason they don't market it here.
