In my situation i think it would be awkward to force my friends partner to be friends with my partner

Im friends with my friends because we have stuff in common, doesn't mean i or my partner would be compatible with her husband.

I thought that only happens with mutual friends?

I think it is a very rare friendship that lasts a long time. it takes a lot of effort and a level of commitment to keep friendships and sometimes just life gets in the way. We have two couples that we have been friends with for decades, forty years, , and one other couple who we are still friends with, but since I have stopped 'chasing ' them for a visit or a catch up, we hardly see them anymore. I wouldn't really worry about friends, so long as you dont spend the rest of your life sitting on your couch, im sure you will find new friends. marie.
