lol yeah sorry I was loitering on the thead
Thanks for your help Emma and Blinky and I when I get a bit more time I'm going to try and read through all of this to gain some of your knowledge.
Emma I see that going to SA has worked for you and you don't have long to go, it must be so exciting congratulations. Did Lynn's office just give you your test results and you sent them off? Lynn did tell me that she would help with any prescriptions that I may need.
Did you all join all the agencies to go through all the donors of just picked one? Can you tell me which clinics have more elaborate profiles and were the most helpful. I sent off a request to the first one on the list AbabySA to register but haven't heard anything back yet.
Lisa - DH and I set ourselves a list of criteria that we were looking for in a donor.
we then 'joined' all the recommended agencies on CFC's list and then went through all the profiles looking for matches to our criteria. Initially we were overwhelmed as we felt like we were 'shopping' but in the end found our match. We then went with that agency.
For us it was Sunshine but it could have easily been a couple of the others too. The costs can vary between agencies but for us our choice was solely on finding the right donor for us.
For what it is worth - Rikki and her team at Sunshine have been fabulous! They mentor/monitor the donors, go with them to all their appointments, help them with medications and ensure their health both physically mentally and emotionally throughout the whole process. We have always got feedback for all stages and Rikki has always been readily available to answer all our questions. No matter how often I ask them or what time of day...
GL with your searching x
Hey again - yes getting close for me ... actually closer than my ticker says as I've got gestational diabetes and will be delivering 2 weeks earlier so only 6 and a bit weeks to go!
Lynn will give you access to the results of any tests you've done with her, just ask her or her reception for your file. Mine was massive! All tests need to be done within 12 months of heading to CPT though so keep that in mind. If any need updating most of them can be done through your GP if you have a understanding / good one. Lynn will help you out with scripts and timing if advice of your cycle if you have immune issues and need prednisolone or other meds. Just remember though she's not getting 'paid' per se to do this cycle for you so while helpful with scripts etc. you're not really a priority compared to her Monash patients, I was ok with that but it's just something to be mindful of. She's flat out at the best of times so sometimes there's a bit of guess work to be done when using her to help you.
Before I left I asked her for a BT referral for when I got back and she did that along with a referral for a 7 week viability scan with Monash Ultrasound so that was really helpful too.
Yeah join all the agencies and look through all profiles - check your junk folder too as they are normally really quick to get back to you with sign up stuff. I went with AbabySA and they were great... and really helpful. They all charge different rates, but at the end of the day all have a good level of service. The only complaints we've seen on here were regarding Baby2Mom but others have gone on to use them without issue.
I think from memory edsa has the most basic info in regard to profiles, but you can always ask them for more information on any donor you're interested in and they'll send it on if they have any more. CFC will also give you feedback on donors if you want advice.
Nuture, GiftovLife, ababysa and sunshine all have pretty comprehensive profiles. I hope that helps
Yay we have dates! First appointment in Cape Town on 28th January!
Seahorse - Congrats on seeing the heartbeat! That is a major milestone. Great that you have another scan next week. The spotting can be unnerving but it can be perfectly normal too. Still I know you wish it would go away (as I did).
Em - Get out I can't believe you will be a mummy in 6 weeks!! Seems like only yesterday we were on the Over 40s board together. You must be so excited. And just before Xmas is pretty special for you and your family.
MrsErin - how are you going?
Blinky - fantastic you have first appt booked in. With Xmas etc it will be here before you know it.
Lisa - welcome to the board. All the ladies here are such a wealth of info and I can honestly say that I would not have taken the plunge to go to Cape Town if I didn't come across this board. We went with EDSA and were happy with them. We found a donor pretty quickly but had looked at other agencies. As Em says they are all good and once you find your donor just liaise with them and things happen pretty quickly.
Good luck to all the November ladies going to CT.
AFM - I am going along well. Had another scan yesterday (with the Harmony test) at nearly 11 weeks and our little one was hanging upside down this time and still dancing!! I know I keep saying it but I cannot get over how much they move already!
Emski.... hmmm, your FS (Lynn at Monash) didn't / doesn't charge you for your SA cycle? IVFA (Sydney) charges $1000 for overseas cycle monitoring, e.g. co-ordinating scripts, and doing BTs and u/s here. I really don't know if that's the way to go, just pay the money and everything will be easy, as my GP is really "nervous" about anything SA related that I've already told her. I know that BTs through the GP are easy enough to organise, but who would do internal u/s, since I've only ever had them done at the clinic before?
Wow that's a lot Bertie!
I saw my dr for blood tests and he wrote referrals for my scans and hubby's sperm test. We just did them at Gribbles and a radiology place. We ended up seeing my FS for the Lucrin Depot injection script and he didn't charge us at all for the consult. We did end up getting CFC to write another script for the Lucrin and email it off to Fertility2u to order it as it is called Prostap in the UK and they wouldn't accept my FS script with the name Lucrin. I wouldn't bother going through the clinic for $1000 unless you need other medications or support which your GP can't supply. Xx
Seahorse - yay for a beautiful heartbeat!!
Luca - glad to hear your little one is dancing about. My guess is a boy. Mine was on a different spot at every ultrasound.
Bertie I think that's a lot too... For our first trip to SA our FS did everything for free (or Medicare rebate only). That included scripts, referrals, scans everything - even my follow up appointment after the BFN from Cape Town.
This time around I have been charged $225 for a Management fee but this has covered scripts, blood tests, immune protocol monitoring, scans etc. he also arranged for us to have our psychologists appointment free of charge too!
(required by Cape Town for double donation cycles)
He is suggesting further scans (lining scan) and intralipids so I imagine I will pay for these visits but he frequently only takes the Medicare rebate as he says I have paid enough with our 7+ cycles ...
The only thing he ever asked for was a cap (hat) from Cape Town. It's a strange request but he has a collection in his office that signifies all the ladies he has sent for overseas donor cycles...
We did this with our first trip and he wanted to pay for it... I refused to let him so he then didn't charge for our appointment.
