Im a bit behind...sorry the POAS stories and pics really made me laugh.

Just a note to the girls on their way (and in SA, Seahorse).....I did POAS on first day back in Australia - 7 days after transfer and got a negative. I decided not to do it again as if I got another negative I would be devastated. 7 days seemed early enough to argue that perhaps I didn't have enough HCG....yet.

THEN when I got my second positive BLOOD TEST with a healthy HCG, I decided I would try again as I have NEVER gotten a little pink double line. I just wanted to see it once in my life! The test kit specified you didn't need to use the first ****** of the day and I do drink a lot of water but I KNEW I had HCG in my system - but I got another negative.

So moral of the story is - if it is positive, you are pregnant. The damn things very rarely give a false positive - BUT if its negative, don't despair. The stupid tests very easily give a false negative.....

Never got any double lines and I've given up now!

Yeah the first scan is a lining scan, then about 4 days later you have egg retrieval and sperm drop off... then either 3 or 5 days after that, transfer!

Tittle - I had so many false positive tests with the First Response tests, and those cheapie internet brands were not much better, but I had higher expectations of the First Response Tests because they were so much more expensive.

For some silly reason, the only time I resisted POS was in my SA cycle. I think because I had convinced myself I was not pregnant? In previous cycles I had also used those expensive digital kits, whilst I think they are more accurate, I had two out of the 20 or so I had purchased that did not work at all.

Emski & Wishmeluck - you ladies made me laugh so much with your tests. That is hysterical. Made me feel totally normal with all the testing I had done. You will be able to show your little ones those photos as part of their picture album LOL. I know that I will be showing our little man his first pic as an 8 cell embryo LOL.

Blows my theory out of the water! Discussed it with a friend who is doctor and she said she never even bothers to send a 'normal' pregnancy for a blood test if its positive! Think I used First Response too.

    Hi All,

I am just reading all this and can see how naive I was before we left for Cape Town. I didn't realise there was a choice between Lucrin & Synarel (we used Synarel).

As for bringing the needles back in, we brought ALL of them back (didn't even think to dispose of any in CT). We had our letter from FS and were prepared to get hassled by customs in CT, J'Burg & Sydney (also with our bag load of wooden products) and all I got hassled about in J'Burg was my bottle of water! I had to give it in before getting on the plane?? We sent our giraffe home separately. Still waiting for him - hope he is ok!

I have not POAS in the last 2 days and have been so much more relaxed. I agree do not do it too early! I am now starting to get nervous about my BT this afternoon. But have been great up until now.

Seahorse - hopefully you arrived OK. I read it was nearly 30 degrees there yesterday - nice.

    Have a good day everyone.

Hope for All: Are going through CFC? They sent me a document called The Egg Donation Process 2014 which explained everything step by step which has become my bible. Might be worth requesting if you haven't yet got one because it's really helpful.

Seahorse: Hope the flight was ok. Looking forward to hearing some updates on how it goes.

Luca: Good luck with the blood test.

AFM: Am having a bit of a stressfest about whether we've picked the right donor and whether we rushed into her. Found out last night that she will turn 29 when we're hopefully there in November and that DR W thought a AMH test was a good idea even though she's donated before because of her age. So now of course, am worrying she's too old (although keep reminding myself she's a good few years younger than me!)
Also worried that my GP is not going to want to prescribe any of the meds as she's not a fertility specialist. I need to start taking the pill this weekend so hopefully she can prescribe that at least, and then if she won't do the rest, I can go through the International Pharmacy. But obviously would be a lot easier to get here!
Need to take a deep breath and stop stressing...
    Hi to all. x

    Hi mardicharli,

i used the once off depot injection. It is super easy and then you don't have to worry about taking other medications everyday. I found it cheaper at a UK pharmacy. Go to "fertility2u". It cost 177 lbs which was much cheaper then the pharmacy the CFC suggests. The CFC just needs to send them a script for it.

Hi Patsy, I printed out the drug protocol from the Clinic and had no problems with my GP preparing scripts because the request was in essence already coming from an FS - Dr Wiswedel. Also I'm sure your donor will be fine. If her AMH is a little lower then the FS will let you know if they have concerns or will up their FSH meds during stimming. Just remember that many 29 year olds get pregnant every day without ivf! 😊

I remember those days. Hang in there not long now. Can you spend some time googling all of the wonderful things you can do in and around Cape Town. I found this helped as it took my focus solely away from the ivf. It's hard to explain the feeling you get when you're there looking around and sightseeing. Ironically apart from the clinic contact days I can honestly say it was the most relaxed I've been in a long time. I remember sitting on the open upper deck of the red hop on hop off bus with the sun shining and a gentle breeze blowing my hair, looking at all the other tourists wondering what their stories were. Such a beautiful time. I just know you're going to love it. xxx
