After reading the posts from the girls donor searching, I am getting quite worried that we mightn't find a donor this year either. We have just finished all of our medical forms and tests and were hoping to head off in Oct or Nov..
I think hub and I will be doing a heap of searching in the next few days. Sooooo don't want to put this off til next year!

    Hi Ladies

I hope all the ladies searching for their donors find their perfect donors. I'm sorry it is so stressful for some of you. I am sure you will find her eventually. Someone asked how long it took. For us we gave ourselves 4 months and it was a perfect amount of time. I actually could have done it earlier but hubby wanted to wait until August. So we are leaving next weekend. But as everyone says it can take a lot less time than that to get everything sorted. Good luck everyone!

BJ thanks for the stats. That is really interesting.

    Hi to everyone else.

    Hi everyone,

I am very new to this forum and currently getting a wealth of information from all the South African egg donor threads.
I will be 45 next Feb, my partner is 38 in November. I have been told by my FS that I should not waste any more time with my own eggs and try an egg donor. We have decided to do this in South Africa.

It is very daunting at first thinking of the best place to start and how it will all be organised. I have made contact with Gift ov Life and CFC. We plan for this to occur in May 2015. We will organise for all the required tests to be done later this year and look for a donor in January - do you think choosing a donor in January gives us enough time to organise cycles etc for transfer in May ??

Also can I please ask all those that have gone through this process in South Africa - What was the safest and easiest form of payment that you did??

I look forward to being a part of this community

    Hi Nic,
Welcome and warm wishes for your upcoming cycle.
If you are looking at a cycle in May 2015, January will definitely give you enough time to organise everything, it just depends how long it takes for you to find a donor you are happy with. For some the decision can be straight forward and swift, for others it has taken some months. I guess it depends how you think you will be with making this decision?

Once you have selected a donor the process can be arranged in as little as 6-8 weeks.

If I could offer one bit of advice it would be not to limit your donor choice to just one agency but look at all the certified agencies recommended by CFC. I think for most of us our choice of donor dictated which agency we went with, rather than the other way around.

For us we found the easiest way to make payments was with C/C. Yes there are fees for overseas transactions and in our case we had the bank call us to check on a 'suspect transaction' but other than that it was easy and neat. I also liked the idea that should there be an issue with the transaction it was easier to rectify and covered by my card insurance.
I looked into electronically transferring the $$ but found the fees for this were higher than our C/C. I guess just check with your bank?

    Hi ladies and gent,

BJ - thank you for the post on statistics - very interesting and here I am hoping for a girl...!!

To the ladies searching for a donor - I agree with feather...select one with proven ivf results rather than age or similarities... the donor I have selected has had two cycles both resulting in a pregnancy. She is not similar to me at all - she has curly dark red hair where I have dark brown / black hair. But her parents and grandparents all have brown hair...so the red is a throw back... Goodness knows, I would not want a curly red haired boy but I would rather that than no baby at all... (hoping DH's south American looks kicks in...!!)

To all the pregnant girls, keep posting, I am following your journeys with interest...!!

Thank you Blinky76 for your response, I will expand my search to other agencies

I have another question for all those ladies that have been to South Africa - where did you stay? Did you go with the accommodation suggested by CFC?

So exciting that you're off this weekend @Luca!
Nic - we stayed at the Vineyard which is very close to the clinic and we loved it, but it is a little exxy- depends what you want out of your stay and how much you want/don't want to spend. There are lots of apartments for rent through airb&b etc., there are cottages, hotels, apartments.

    Take a look at http://capestay.co.za/

I was going to stay here if I had to go back for a second trip - http://www.capestay.co.za/moltenocottage/
Cheap and very secure (I did a drive by while we were still in CPT)

    Em x

I'm thinking there still may be time if you wanted to do a cycle in November this year. We're keeping our hopes up that we'll find a girl soon.

I'm searching for hazel eyes and light brown/blonde hair, which are my natural features.

for the ladies who've already been to SA for their cycles, what did you tell people you were doing? did you tell people you were going for donor eggs, or just for a little holiday? I'm thinking of telling people we've been invited for a wedding because if I tell people we're just going for a holiday they'll wonder why we aren't seeing more of south africa & we'll have to bring back souvinirs and it'll just be chaotic haha

Nic we used airbnb.com to find our accommodation in Cape Town. We had a family member coming along for the holiday part of our trip so looked for a 2 bedroom apartment.
I think it cost about$86/ night
