A beautiful girls name, I completely love it too. Before you posted the name I was thinking along the lines of Cyril or something like that lol

But yeah this is why people don't like to share names before birth, as a lot of people have no tact whilst bagging out your name choice they do however contain themselves ( mostly) when bubs are born.

We chose to keep our daughters name a secret for this reason. Personally I don't think it's anyone's business to tell you what you should name YOUR child.

If you love the name, that is the most important thing!

I didn't even know it was a males name, I've only ever heard it as a girls name... But really too bad to anyone that doesn't 'like' it!

I would stick with it no questions. This is not about anyone else! It think it is such a cute name, it isn't a "boys name, definitely genderless. And, it is so lovely that it has a familial connection! This is why I never told anyone what I was naming the kids until they were here, people have no problem saying how much they hate a name when you are pregnant, but once they are out, people tend not to be negative, even if they hate it.

UOTE=Bobbielouise;7818164]I found out yesterday that I am having a little girl!
I have a name picked out for her, family love it as it's a family name (grandfathers middle name, dad's middle name, very similar to sisters middle name) but many friends, and the fathers family have turned up their nose to it!

I have even, from a close family friend (well my cousins mum), been told that I'm putting my daughter through a lifetime of hell, and that I of all people should understand because I have a male name too! I actually love my name! I couldn't imagine being called anything else, and most people actually like my name, after they ask if it's short for anything haha (My name is Bobbie)

Would you change a name based on these negative reactions? Or just stick with it because you like it? Am I really setting my child up for a lifetime of hell?

For those wondering, the name is Addison Elizabeth. I like that it's a family name, and very english sounding as I am English.[/QUOTE]

Love Addison, it's a name that will grow with her as she goes through life. I bet that if you changed your mind about Addison at least one of the people who hates it would decide they like it, and want to use it for their little girl. Stick with it, and if anyone tries to change your mind let them know you're not listening cos they're being unbelievably disrespectful!

If someone having a boy said Addison would be the name - I would think it was a girls name.

Does your DH like it? If he does and you do then go for it!

I thought it was a girls name? Addison wasnt she on greys anatomy? Mcdreamys wife? Or that woman played a role on another show and that was her name.. maybe show them that.. its a female name too! Really nice too. Stick with it and just dont bring it up with them again so they cant ruin it. Thats why we didnt say ds name before he was born because we knew people would ruin it.
